What's Happening in Our School!
February
A Word From Mr. Quillen
PES Family,
As we move further into the semester, it is wonderful to see the growth and energy our students bring to the building each day. We have a very busy season ahead of us, and I want to share a few important updates and reminders to help keep our school community running smoothly.
Staying Prepared for Changing Weather As we all know, the weather this time of year can be unpredictable. We often start the day with freezing temperatures and end it with sunshine. Please ensure your child comes to school prepared for outdoor recess with appropriate coats, hats, and gloves. We try to get the students outside for fresh air whenever possible, so dressing in layers is always a great strategy!
Success During eLearning Days With the possibility of inclement weather comes the potential for eLearning days. To ensure these days are productive, we ask for your partnership in monitoring your student’s progress from home. Please help your child stay on track by:
Checking Schedules: Ensure they are logging on to all scheduled Google Meets on time to receive live instruction.
Monitoring Assignments: Check that all digital tasks are completed and submitted by the designated deadlines. Maintaining this routine helps ensure that no learning time is lost, even when we can’t be together in the building.
Exciting Events on the Horizon We have several wonderful activities coming up that celebrate our students' hard work and bring our community together:
Science Fair February 9: We can’t wait to see the innovative projects our young scientists have been working on. It’s always a highlight of the year!
School Carnival April 10: Mark your calendars for an evening of games, food, and fun. This is a fantastic opportunity for our families to connect and celebrate our school spirit.
Kindergarten & PreK Roundup April 16: It is already time to look toward next year! If you have a child ready to start their journey with us, or know a neighbor who does, please join us for our Roundup events to learn more about our programs and complete registration.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. It is truly a privilege to work with your children every day.
Sincerely,
Mr. Quillen

Staff Highlight!
Todd Robertson
Reading & Math Interventionist
Mr. Robertson is one of our Reading and Math Interventionists at PES! He received his teaching degree from Indiana University. Go Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers! Mr. Robertson has been at Pioneer for 16 years and has had many different roles, including 4th, 5th, and 6th grade.
When Mr. Robertson was asked what he enjoys about his job, he stated, "I love being able to work with many different students ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade. I also enjoy being able to work with all the different teachers of these grade levels."
Mr. Robertson has many great memories during his time at Pioneer. He especially loves it when his former students tell him how much of a positive impact he had on their lives. He stated that is why he went into teaching in the first place!
The Pioneer Community means a lot to Mr. Robertson. He loves how much the community helps out and cares for the students at Pioneer Regional Schools!
Lisa Shaw
Reading & Math Interventionist
Mrs. Shaw is another Reading and Math Interventionist at Pioneer Elementary School. She has been in their position for 3 years, but has been with Pioneer for 30 years! Mrs. Shaw graduated from Purdue University and earned her Masters in Library Sciences from IUPUI.
When asked what she loves about Pioneer, Mrs. Shaw stated, "The Students. They make each day exciting and different. I also love sharing in the successes in their education."
Mrs. Shaw's favorite memories at Pioneer all revolve around the fun of Grandparent's Day! She loves how special the day is for the kids and their grandparents.
Mrs. Shaw loves the Pioneer community. She says, "My favorite thing about the whole Pioneer community inside the school and outside is that they are all here for each other. A tragedy or bad time befalls someone; they all rally to help. It’s wonderful!!"
Susie Jones
Reading & Math Interventionist
When asked what she likes most about her job, Mrs. Jones stated, "What I like most is being able to work with the students! It is especially exciting when the lightbulb goes off and they get it! I love being there for the kids! The students bring joy, laughter and tears, and at the end, it is all worth it!"
Mrs. Jones has many favorite memories, but some of her favorites are when a first grader came up to her, after she lost her father, the student hugged her and told her how sorry he was about her dad. She stated, "It really touched my heart." She also remembers when the staff Lunch Bunch had a toy critter they had floating around, and they put it on her chair and when she stood up to see what was wrong with her chair. She screamed so loud, and they all just lost it!
Mrs. Jones said, "What I like most about the Pioneer Community is that we are a FAMILY! We are there for each other in the good and difficult times! We care!" We couldn't agree more, Mrs. Jones!
