Hello Cecil Manor Families!

We are so glad students are back in the building! Students started the school year off with

reviewing Cecil Manor's Core Values: Respectful, Responsible, Caring and Safe. Teachers

discussed and modeled these core values with students for each area of the building. These

core values are a part of our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.

PBIS is a research-based behavior program that focuses on acknowledging students for

consistent, socially appropriate, positive behavior. Common routines and language regarding

the school’s behavioral expectations are consistent throughout the school.

  • Ask your child to list the Cecil Manor expectations that we follow in school.
  • Ask your child to give an example of a positive behavior that he or she can display when in the following settings: classroom, cafeteria, bathroom, hallway, playground, bus and bus stop.
  • Once you have talked with your child about our school-wide expectations, be sure to revisit them from time to time. You can even try them at home!

Parents we need your help! In an effort to decrease traffic and calls during dismissal that can cause disruption to students leaving the building safely, we ask that all calls concerning changes in how a student will get home be completed prior to 3:00 PM. In addition, if your child needs to be picked up prior to dismissal (3:30 PM), please do so by 3:00 PM. We are striving to have a more orderly and secure dismissal process, ensuring that every student is safely accounted for at the end of each day. We understand that this may require some adjustments to your schedules, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Our top priority is the safety of our students, and we believe that this change will help us maintain a secure and efficient dismissal process.

In accordance with HB 416 (Chapter 182 of the 2024 Laws of Maryland), schools are now required to take additional steps to ensure transparency and support around emergency preparedness drills. These include:

  • Providing families with the annual schedule of emergency drills at the start of the school year

  • Announcing drills in advance to students and staff

  • Offering mental health follow-up, identifying students who may need additional support, and collecting data on the psychological impact of drills

We are committed to making these experiences safe, developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed for all students. Please review this tentative schedule for emergency drills.

Note: These dates are subject to change due to staff availability and weather conditions.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our school community safe and informed!

When schools give students access to devices and online accounts, an incredible world of learning opportunities opens up — as well as potential dangers. Digital safety is critically important to Cecil County Public Schools, which is why we have been using Bark for Schools to help us protect our students both online and in real life. Please refer to this letter for more information.
