A Season of Gratitude and Growth
As we approach Thanksgiving, it’s the time to reflect on the many reasons we have to be grateful. We are thankful for our incredible students, dedicated staff, supportive families, and a community that values education. Together, we’ve achieved milestones and we look forward to building on this success as we move into the future.
Academic Performance
With student test scores and graduation rates consistently exceeding state averages. This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our educators, the engagement of our students, and the support of our families and community. Together, we are preparing students not just to succeed academically but to excel as future leaders.
Commitment to Serving Every Student
From our youngest learners to those about to graduate, we strive to create opportunities that inspire growth and prepare every student for a bright future. Whether their path leads to college, technical training, or the workforce, we aim to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.
Preparing for the Workforce of Tomorrow
Looking to the future, the Meade School District is exploring the possibility of expanding its Career and Technical Education (CTE) space. With the growing workforce needs of our region and provide students with hands-on learning opportunities in fields such as healthcare, technology, skilled trades, and more. By investing in CTE programs, we aim to ensure our students are ready to meet future workforce demands.
Strategic Planning for a Shared Vision
This spring, the district will start a strategic planning process to guide our efforts in the coming years. We recognize that our community and staff are essential voices in shaping this vision, and we will be engaging with you throughout the process. Your insights will be key in creating a plan that addresses the needs of our students, staff, and community.
Together, we are building a brighter future for our students, empowering them to achieve their dreams and contribute to the success of our region. Your partnership is the foundation and we look forward to continuing this journey with you.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I Love You Guys
Schools across the Meade School District have been actively engaged in implementing and training staff on the highly regarded I Love U Guys Foundation protocols. These programs for crisis response and post-crisis reunification are recognized worldwide, with adoption in more than 50,000 schools, districts, departments, agencies, organizations, and communities. The I Love U Guys Foundation’s approach is grounded in research-based best practices, developed collaboratively by school administrators, psychologists, public safety experts, families, and first responders to ensure comprehensive and effective preparedness.
As part of this district-wide initiative, our schools have been scheduling and conducting weekly drills to practice response tactics for a variety of scenarios, including accidents, intruders, and other potential safety threats. These drills are carefully designed to help staff and students build familiarity and confidence in their ability to respond swiftly and appropriately in an emergency.
By prioritizing safety through ongoing training and practical exercises, the Meade School District is fostering a culture of preparedness, collaboration, and resilience. These efforts ensure that all students, staff, and visitors are supported by a well-coordinated and effective response system, reinforcing the district’s commitment to creating a safe and secure learning environment.

B&G Welcomes New Maintenance Foreman
The Meade School District is thrilled to welcome Jeremiah Weeldreyer as the new Maintenance Foreman in the Buildings & Grounds Department! Jeremiah brings a diverse and impressive background, along with a wealth of experience, to our team.
Hailing from Newell, SD, Jeremiah successfully operated his own shop, honing his skills on vintage cars and rebuilding engines since the age of 18. In addition to his mechanical expertise, he served as the shop foreman for Bickle's Truck and Diesel, where he scheduled jobs, rebuilt semi motors and transmissions, and excelled in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex mechanical issues.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jeremiah has been deeply involved in his community. While in Newell, he coached middle school basketball and served as an assistant coach for high school boys’ and girls’ basketball. His leadership extended to the school board, where he served as chairman, and he contributed to initiatives like the post-prom committee and the creation of the “Books on the Bus” program, encouraging literacy among bus-riding students.
Currently, Jeremiah continues to give back as a coach with the Special Olympics Spearfish Peaks, working with teams in softball, basketball, and track. He also serves as a Unified Partner with Special Olympics, exemplifying his commitment to inclusivity and community service.
With his skill set, leadership experience, and passion for making a difference, Jeremiah will be an invaluable asset to the Meade School District. Please join us in giving him a warm welcome as we look forward to the positive impact he will bring to our facilities and community!

Delta Dental Mobile Bus Visits Sturgis Elementary
Students from Sturgis Elementary, Whitewood Elementary, and Sturgis Williams Middle School were seen on the Delta Dental Mobile, receiving dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, and dental education. The mobile bus comes to the district twice a year at a cost of $6,000.00 and does an estimated $50,000.00 of dental work on students.
The district is grateful for donations from Sturgis Rally Charities and others, otherwise this service would not take place. The Delta Dental of South Dakota Mobile Program has a mission to help children who don't have access to dental care.
The next scheduled visit by the Delta Mobile is for Piedmont Valley Elementary on March 10-14, 2025.

All Meade School District middle and high school student technology fee's ($25/student or $50/family) will be waived if families complete the Free and Reduced Meal Application, regardless of whether you qualify for the program or not. Unfortunately, the number of applications has dropped since COVID-19 and this puts our Title I funding at risk for our district.
By having more families complete the application, the district can demonstrate a higher level of need to secure and maintain Title I federal funding.
The information provided on the application is confidential, and staff will not have access to the specific details of your application.
