Weekly Update

Classroom Spotlight!
Alexa Rios, a former English II Honors student of R. P. Flagg, now enrolled in AP Language and Composition, returned to the tenth-grade classroom this week to give an eight-minute demonstration of how she had recontextualized the See–Think–Wonder structure through the OPTIC framework in her AP Language work. Recognizing a connection between the two approaches, Alexa was eager to share that connection with tenth-grade students and to demonstrate how a reading structure developed in tenth grade can continue to inform her work in a subsequent English course.
Attendance & Tardies
Being present and on time every day is an important part of student success. When students arrive late to school or class, they miss valuable instructional time and can disrupt learning already taking place.
PVHS continues to monitor student tardies and reinforce the importance of arriving to school and each class on time. During passing periods, students are expected to report to their next class on time and ready to learn. Administration and security personnel will continue conducting hallway sweeps and directing students who are tardy to the library, where their names will be recorded before they are released to class.
Students arriving 20 minutes or more late to 1st period will also report directly to the library rather than interrupting instruction already in progress.
PVHS Tardy Policy: Cycle of Consequences
Tardies are cumulative. The following consequences apply for unexcused tardies:
1–3 tardies: Verbal warning and parent notification
4–6 tardies: Administrative conference and written notice to parent
7+ tardies: May result in loss of privileges, detention, or other disciplinary action consistent with District policy

Important Reminder: No Blankets on Campus
Effective Monday, September 28, blankets will no longer be allowed on campus due to safety concerns. Students who bring a blanket to school will be asked to turn it in to the front office, where it will remain for the school day.
Please plan accordingly and bring a jacket, sweatshirt, or other appropriate outerwear if needed. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe learning environment for everyone.
📵 Electronic Device Reminder
PVHS is a phone-free campus from bell to bell. Students are reminded that cell phones and personal electronic devices, including tablets, iPads, earbuds, and smartwatches, are not permitted for use during the school day.
Students are expected to use their Yondr pouch every day. Upon arriving at school, students should secure their cell phone and other personal electronic devices in their Yondr pouch and keep the pouch secured throughout the entire school day. Devices should remain secured until the end of the school day.
Having a phone turned off, placed in a backpack, or kept in a pocket does not meet the school’s phone-free expectation. Students are expected to follow the Yondr procedure and have their devices properly secured in their pouch.
Our phone-free expectation is in place to minimize distractions, protect instructional time, encourage face-to-face interaction, and help students remain focused and engaged in learning. We want our classrooms and hallways to be spaces where students are present and connected to their learning and to one another.
Students should bring their Yondr pouch to school with them each day and take care of it just as they would any other school-issued item.
We appreciate the continued support of our students and families as we work together to maintain a focused, safe, and productive learning environment at PVHS.
Impact Aid Forms
Reminder! PVHS is still collecting Impact Aid Forms. If you have not turned yours in yet, please bring your completed form to the school as soon as possible.
Students who return their completed Impact Aid Form will receive 2 Elk Bucks!
Need another copy? No problem! Stop by the PVHS front office and we will provide you with a new form.
Thank you to our students and families for helping us get all of our forms turned in!
