Safe Schools Week
October 18- October 24
The following are some important safety measures that we can focus on to try to help our students feel more confident and safe when navigating their social worlds.
Navigating Digital Safety: As students spend more time online for school and play, discuss smart digital habits, protecting personal privacy, and the importance of keeping online gaming and group chats kind and respectful.
Positive Peer Dynamics: Upper elementary is a time of shifting friendships. We can focus on empathy, inclusive playground habits, and the difference between playful teasing and behavior that crosses the line.
The Power of Upstanders: We can teach the students how to move from being passive bystanders to active "upstanders"—encouraging them to look out for one another and speak up to a trusted adult if a friend is struggling or if they see something unsafe.
Red Ribbon Week
October 23 - October 30
Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year. During Red Ribbon Week, youth and adults around the nation pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the effects of drugs and renew their commitment to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. We unite as a school to show our dedication to staying drug-free and making healthy choices!
Recess
While we patiently wait for our new recess area and play structure, we will continue to enjoy recess in the side parking lot! At the beginning of the year, we purchased a variety of equipment for students to enjoy, and after lots of use, some items are showing wear and tear.
During our Back-to-School Nights, a few families suggested creating a wishlist of recess equipment, and we thought that was a wonderful idea! If you would like to help replenish our supplies and give our students more options for outdoor play, we would be so grateful for your support.
IT Update
4-6 Homework Expectations
Why are we focusing on homework?
Our goal is to help students build strong executive functioning skills, including time management, organization, and personal accountability. These skills will support students as they take on greater independence and prepare for the next steps in their educational journey.
