CAVALIER Chronicle

It's a Great Week to be a Cavalier!
Happy Sunday Cavalier Families!
I hope this message finds you well and that you are having a great weekend.
As we finish the month of January, we encourage all of our students to reflect on the importance of meeting our campus expectations. These guidelines are in place to create a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for everyone. Additionally, we ask for your support in helping students understand why it is important to focus on their learning while at school. Together, we can continue to inspire our students to make the most of their time, talents, and efforts.
We have a few activities scheduled for this week to include MAP testing and grade level assemblies where our students will hear from award-winning author, Dan Poblocki. We are hosting a meeting for parents of our emergent bilingual students on Tuesday (see flier below). On Friday, we will celebrate students who have earned enough Hero points. We also will have concession food for sale during lunches (students will need cash to purchase).
As always, thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to our school.
We are looking forward to a Cav-tastic week with your students!

Capturing Kid's Hearts
This Month's CKH Character Trait: Respect - Act with thoughtfulness.
Monday: Respect for self is the beginning of cultivating virtue in men and woman.
Tuesday: Respect is a lot more important, and a lot greater than popularity.
Wednesday: In all our deeds, the proper value and respect for time determines success or failure.
Thursday: Knowledge will give you power, but character will give you respect.
Friday: You can have a certain arrogance, and think that is fine, but what you should never lose is respect for others.

Counseling Lunch Groups
The Counseling Office will be doing small group counseling sessions during every grade level lunch on Wednesdays in Room 211. If you would like to your child to participate, please encourage them to get a permission slip from the counseling office or print & fill out the slip below. Our primary focus is effective communication & conflict resolution. For the sessions to be effective, the groups are kept to a maximum of 15 students. Drop-Off & Pick-Up Map for Cars and Buses
Please notice the drop off and pick up areas for cars at CPMS. For the safety of our students, please do not drop off in the bus loop.
Parents/Guardians should only be driving in the yellow area indicated on the map.
The red area is for buses only. Parents who enter the red area are putting students and staff at risk as there is limited visibility when buses are present.
We appreciate your support in enforcing the KISD Student Code of Conduct!
Student Code of Conduct cards were sent home this past week. Please make sure that you have read over the SCOC so that you know the expectations for behavior.
Student Code of Conduct Updates
Electronic Devices and Pouches – Secondary students will maintain their phone, and all communication devices, in a locked pouch during the school day.
E-cigarettes/Cigarettes
1st Offense Violation:
Students will be assigned one day of ISS and one day of Saturday School. Secondary Students will attend at their home campuses (the curriculum will be provided for all students who attend for cigarette/e-cigarette violations).
If the student fails to attend ISS, Saturday Detention and/or complete the lessons, a due process hearing will be held with a recommendation for DAEP placement for 10 days. Students will be allowed one make up opportunity to complete Saturday Detention.
2nd Offense Violation:
A due process hearing will be held with a recommendation for DAEP placement for 20 days.
Consequences for School Bus Violations:
For school bus safety violations, and for serious violations, as defined in this document, that happen on the bus, the 3rd bus offense shall invoke at least a temporary removal (possibly a permanent removal), and the 4th offense will invoke a bus suspension for the rest of the school year. For students attending a DAEP, the 2nd bus offense will result in permanent bus suspension for the time the student is placed in DAEP; any flagrant bus offense prior to the 2nd violation may result in immediate bus suspension. Students who fight on the bus will be suspended for three days. If after a thorough investigation, fighting is confirmed, then the students involved will be removed from the bus for 30 school days. Under severe circumstances the Director for Transportation Services reserves the right to implement temporary or permanent bus suspension at a date earlier than prescribed by this regulation.
