THANK YOU WPS MAINTENANCE, SCHOOL & GROUNDS TEAM! THANK YOU WPS MAINTENANCE, SCHOOL & GROUNDS TEAM!

Dear Weston School Community,

Please join me in recognizing and thanking our incredible facilities and grounds team for their extensive work during the most recent snowstorm. Through long hours and hard work they ensured that our school campus was safely and promptly cleared, allowing our schools to remain accessible for students and staff. Their efforts, often behind the scenes and in challenging conditions, makes a meaningful difference for our entire school community. We are truly grateful for the care they take in supporting our schools.

In partnership,

Erica

HURLBUTT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Our students have been learning about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Through stories and classroom discussions they learned about a great leader who taught us about kindness, fairness, and working together. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. showed us that the power of words and actions grounded in love, kindness, and justice can bring about meaningful change.

In second grade, our students deepened their understanding of his impact through a social studies unit called Leadership, Past and Present. Some essential questions they explored included “What is a leader? Who are leaders in your community, state and country?” By linking their knowledge of the world around them to these big ideas, students were inspired to think about how we can all be kind and help others, just like Dr. King. Our school motto, “be safe, kind and responsible” is a daily reminder of the power of our own words and actions in our school and community.

Every day at Hurlbutt we aspire to spread kindness and to honor and acknowledge the uniqueness of everyone in our school and community.

WESTON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

The arts continue to be a vibrant and meaningful part of learning at WIS, with students embracing opportunities to perform, create, and grow with confidence.

This winter, students proudly shared their talents through a variety of musical performances. The 4th Grade Chorus, 5th Grade Chorus, 4th Grade Orchestra, 5th Grade Orchestra, and 5th Grade Band all took the stage, with many students experiencing their very first public performance. These important milestones marked the beginning of students’ musical journeys and highlighted the confidence, collaboration, and perseverance fostered through our arts programs.

Students also demonstrated courage and creativity during tryouts for Giants in the Sky, gaining valuable experience with the audition process while supporting one another in a positive and encouraging environment. This work will culminate in the full production of Giants in the Sky this March, which we are eagerly looking forward to.

In addition, 3rd Grade students recently enjoyed a field trip to Cabaret, providing a meaningful connection between classroom learning and live performance and further enriching their appreciation of the arts.

We are incredibly proud of our young artists and grateful to our staff for nurturing creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of the arts.

WESTON MIDDLE SCHOOL

On January 27, students in grades 6,7, and 8 participated in powerful presentations about Holocaust Remembrance Day.

In grade 6, students heard the story of Weston resident Marc Fontaine's family and their resistance and heroism during World War II in Holland.

Grade 7 students met with Rabbi Michael Friedman to discuss the meaning of symbols - from daily symbols embedded in our lives like the Nike swoosh or the American flag to hate symbols. It was an important connection to the ongoing work we are doing as a school with No Place for Hate.

Eighth graders heard from student representatives from Weston High School's Jewish Student Union who showed students a documentary that they made with a Holocaust survivor. The documentary not only highlighted his specific story but also spoke urgently to the present and how students need to be vigilant and stand up for what's right and just. For all three assemblies, students were attentive, respectful, and asked really insightful questions.

WESTON HIGH SCHOOL

On Tuesday, January 27, WHS observed International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Students heard powerful stories of perseverance in the face of persecution and genocide, and had an opportunity to reflect on the importance of being responsible citizens and upstanders in their daily lives. In the morning, we host a whole-school assembly featuring Ms. Annie Bystryn, who spoke about her father’s experience hiding in plain sight in France during the Holocaust. In the afternoon, students in grades 10-12 had the opportunity to sign up to hear Mr. Andy Sarkany, a Holocaust survivor.
