Welcome from Principal Vance
Welcome, Wildcats!
We’re excited to kick off the 2025–2026 school year! Our staff has been working hard over the past week to ensure a smooth and successful start, and we can’t wait to welcome students back to campus.
This year’s theme is “Belong, Connect, Become.” It reflects the work we’ve done over the past few years to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where every student feels like they belong, where families and students are connected to the life of the school, and where students are empowered to become their future selves.
A key part of this vision is the rollout of our Profile of a Graduate. With input from students, staff, and families, we’ve identified six core competencies we want every WSHS graduate to develop:
- Global and Cultural Awareness: Understanding diverse histories, cultures, languages, art, and global events.
- Technological Proficiency: Demonstrating digital literacy and responsible use of technology.
- Personal Growth and Health: Fostering self-awareness, mental and physical well-being, and lifelong personal development.
- Effective Communication and Collaboration: Excelling in writing, speaking, and teamwork.
- Ethical and Responsible Behavior: Practicing integrity, empathy, accountability, and ethical decision-making.
- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Thinking analytically, questioning thoughtfully, and solving problems creatively.
As we continue to refine our curriculum and instructional practices, these competencies will guide our work and ensure students are prepared for life beyond high school.
Another exciting update this year is our Advisory class. We’re trying a new approach—holding Advisory once a week on Fridays, but for a longer period. This time will be dedicated to community building, academic support, and future planning. Students will be paired with an advisor for a two-year cycle (grades 9–10 and 11–12), and lessons will include both schoolwide and grade-specific content.
We’re also launching a cohort model for all 9th-grade students. Incoming freshmen will be grouped into cohorts for their Science and ELA classes, helping to build stronger connections, foster community, and provide consistent support during this important transition into high school.
I’m incredibly proud of where we are as a school and the positive direction we’re heading. I look forward to welcoming all of our students and families to WSHS for what promises to be an exciting and fulfilling school year.
Go Wildcats!
