As we start the new school year, I'm writing to share some important information regarding the technology your student will be using and how you can support your student this year.

1. GoGuardian Parent App GoGuardian Parent is an optional app that gives you insight into your student's online activity on their school-issued Chromebook. You can view browsing history, filter websites, set up an allowed usage schedule, and even pause internet access. Click on this link for more info and setup instructions.

2. ParentVUE Account Your ParentVUE account is your hub for all things related to your student's academic life. It's where you can access their grades, attendance, and important school forms. If you need help with your account, please reference this guide (linked here)

3. Technology Protection Plan (Optional): The Technology Protection Plan is an optional plan to protect your student's Chromebook from accidental damage and theft.

  • All incoming 6th- and 7th-grade devices are under warranty for accidental damage, so this plan would only be needed to cover stolen devices.

  • For grade 8, this plan is highly recommended as it helps cover the cost of repairs or replacement, which can be up to $300.

The cost is $20 per student or $60 per family, with a $20 deductible per repair. Families who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are not charged for the plan (but still need to enroll/opt-in). You can enroll in the plan through your ParentVUE account under "Fees" until November 1. Click on this link for more information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact AMSA’s Technology Facilitator, Andy Berg, at 763.506.5087 or at Andrew.Berg@ahschools.us

ABSENT?? Each morning you are absent due to illness. a medical appointment or a sudden family emergencies, a parent/guardian should call the school (763-506-4606 Washington-grade 6 or 763-506-5006 Fred Moore - grades 7 & 8 before 8:00 am and leave the information on the absence line. You may choose to enter the absence on your ParentVue app.

LEAVING EARLY?? If you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, please send a note with your child in the morning so they can get a pass from the office. Your child will be released from the main office once you arrive and swipe your ID at our main entrance.

If you find out about an appointment the same day, please call our office. 763-506-4609 Washington grade 6 or 763-506-5007 grades 7 & 8. A pass can be sent to the student so they can be waiting for you when you arrive. DO NOT CALL ATTENDANCE LINE AND LEAVE A MESSAGE AFTER THE SCHOOL DAY HAS STARTED FOR SAME DAY APPOINTMENTS-PLEASE CALL AND SPEAK TO SOMEONE.

TRUANCY?? Any absence that is unexcused is considered a truancy and students are subject to consequences ranging from detention to referral to the courts for truancy charges. Your support in assuming your child is in school is the first and fundamental step in building achievement. School attendance is mandatory in the state of Minnesota. Our school is required to report habitual unexcused absences to the county attorney's office, which could result in legal consequences for the student and/or parent/guardian.

Let's review some policies! Let's review some policies!

New Locker Room Policy

For our Physical Education and Fitness classes, students will no longer utilize locker rooms to store belongings and dress in athletic wear. Shifting this practice helps increase time for students to be active and learning, while decreasing safety concerns. This is a shift at the Fred Moore Campus, but

has already been in place for several years at the Washington Campus.

On days students have P.E. or Fitness, they should wear appropriate clothing and shoes to school that enable them to safely participate. Students can keep an extra pair of tennis shoes in their locker. Before each PE/Fitness class, students will stop at their locker to drop off all belongings, change shoes if needed, and then come to the gym.

Electronics Policy

Cell phones, earbuds and other personal electronic devices may not be used during the school day. The school day is classified as the instructional time between 8:25 - 3:05 p.m. at the Fred Moore Campus and 8:25 - 2:55 p.m. at the Washington Campus. Per district guidelines, taking pictures or videotaping other students or school staff is prohibited without the permission of a teacher or administrator. Portable electronic devices used without the appropriate approval may result in disciplinary action. Student removal of a memory chip or battery from a phone in the process of it being confiscated may be considered grounds for disciplinary action by school administration. AMSA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged electronic devices.

Lockers and Backpacks Policy

Each student is assigned a locker for books and school supplies. All backpacks need to be in lockers during the school day. The locker number and combination will be on the student schedule and in ParentVue and StudentVue apps. Students are not allowed to share (or trade) their lockers with others. Parents/guardians, please encourage your child to keep the locker combination confidential. As a school, we are not responsible for lost or stolen property.

Hat and Hood Policy

A reminder that AMSA has a no hat and no hood policy at both the Fred Moore and Washington campuses. This increases engagement in our classrooms, improves our ability to identify people in our building, and decreases the likelihood of students using earbuds and airpods throughout the instructional day. Exceptions will be made for religious, ethnic, and medical reasons.

As a part of district budget reductions last school year, individual Volunteer Service Coordinator (VSC) positions at secondary sites were eliminated. This means there will no longer be a dedicated VSC at each secondary school. We have moved to a centralized model to manage all volunteer needs.

Volunteers are still a very important part of our school community and we will continue to work to support volunteer needs in our buildings and process volunteer applications in accordance with district risk management procedures.

Take a minute and complete Anoka MS for the Arts Volunteer Application for this school year. Send a message to MSVolunteerServicese@ahschools.us if you have general questions about volunteering or need assistance with the volunteer paperwork.

Our other immediate needs may also include the following. Please reach out to the Volunteer office for more information. Be sure to fill out your Volunteer Application to find out all the opportunities.

An email with the sign-ups for these events will be sent out to the people who have their volunteer forms filled out in late August. if you have general questions about volunteering or need assistance with the volunteer paperwork.
