Hello Afton-Lakeland Families!

We are settling into the school year by doing two important things: learning our routines and building connections.

We are excited to see our students grow in confidence, connection, and independence each day! It is especially heartwarming to see students helping one another and sharing what they know. I’ve seen students supporting each other in the hallways—picking up a dropped item, helping someone find the bathroom, or simply offering a helping hand. I’ve also seen students including others in conversations and games. These small moments of kindness and connection are what make our school community special!

Wishing you and your families a Happy Labor Day weekend! See you next Tuesday!

Sincerely,
Katy Pupungatoa, Principal

This week, we explored the ways we connect and include one another. We’re learning that when we welcome more people into our circle, we all feel more supported and cared for! To dive deeper into this message, some classes read the book The Circles All Around Us. We invite you to view it with your child here.

🚗🚌🚲🚶

Is your student taking a different way home than usual?
  • Examples: Taking carpool instead of bus or vice versa, going home with a friend, biking or walking home when they typically are bus/carpool.

This is what we need from you:

  • Option 1: Email your student's teacher AND Mrs. Foua (Office) regarding the change. She will write a note to give to your student.
  • Option 2: You can write your own note and have your student bring it to the office to get it "school approved" with a stamp.
  • Option 3 (especially if it's after 1 p.m.): Call the office to notify us and to guarantee the transportation change isn't missed in an email. Mrs. Foua will send a note down to the class.
  • A NOTE is required for all changes to a student's typical transportation route.

What happens then?

  • Your student should show their note to their teacher and Mrs. Foua (Office). Your student keeps the note to show the bus driver or staff member out at the carpool/walker/bikers area as well.
  • If your student does not have a note and we cannot reach you via phone by 2:20 p.m., we will send your student home using their standard transportation routine.
  • If your student misses the bus for any reason, unfortunately you will need to pick up your student from school because of the tight turnaround we have with getting buses to the secondary schools.

❗Attendance Reminders ❗Attendance Reminders

  • Please call our attendance line, 651-351-6560, or use your PowerSchool Parent Portal if your student will be absent for any reason. If we don't hear from you by 8:20 a.m., they will be marked unexcused and you will receive an automated attendance call.
  • If your student is out sick for 4 or more consecutive days, a doctor's note is required to excuse their absence.
  • If your child has a reoccurring appointment, please give the office a doctor's note stating this for school records.
  • If your student will be coming in late or leaving early, please call the attendance line for that as well. You will need to sign in or out your student on the office iPad so we can update their attendance accurately.
