Ashland Preschool Weekly Update

Hi, everyone,

We were BUZZING this week with our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports reboot on Thursday! Students and staff reviewed our core values and expectations to "be safe, be kind" at Pittaway! Classrooms incorporated various activities throughout the day. Our BEE colors helped brighten up the dreary, turned snowy day! Click here for more information on PBIS! 🐝

Our students will participate in outdoor recess as much as possible throughout the school year. The guideline of "Feels like temperature of 20 degrees or warmer" is used to determine if it will be indoor or outdoor recess. This includes the effect of the wind-chill if it is a breezy day. That temperature can change throughout the day, so we ask the PittCrew to monitor The Weather Channel around their recess times.

Now that the weather is quickly changing, please remember to send your children in layers, as well as outdoor clothing, on a consistent basis. This includes sweatshirts, a warm winter coat, hat and mittens/gloves. When snow is on the ground, students will need boots and snowpants to play in the snowy areas. If they don't have these items, they will stay on the pavement.

Let's talk about science, technology, engineering and math! Our Houghton Mifflin curriculum provides us with a lot of science and math activities related to each theme.

In our current theme, Seasons All Around, students learn about different types of weather and temperature. They may use an iPad to listen to the sounds different weather makes. Each classroom teacher uses a combination of math and science activities related to the theme and activities they come up with to cover all of the learning standards in the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks. Engineering activities are embedded into our day when students build with different materials in the block center.

Don’t forget to visit ashland.k12.ma.us/Flyers where we feature announcements and events offered by organizations, clubs and teams throughout our community that serve to enrich the lives of our students, families, faculty and staff. The board will be updated every Friday, so check back frequently!
