We are very proud of our scholars who are making the effort to come to school in uniform each day. And we are very excited to launch a series of celebration to recognize students who are dressing and behaving the way they should. As we tighten up our expectations, students who are not meeting uniform expectations will begin to see more lasting consequences including detention and Saturday School. As always, families are notified each time a student arrives out of uniform.

As I said at the beginning, we are thrilled to be celebrating our students who are demonstrating The OAS Way every day.

Red Ribbon Week kicks off on Wednesday! See our flyer, below. It's always a very positive week at OAS as we prepare our students to live safe and healthy lives. Speaking of healthy lives, check out our information below about the Family Health Center that's coming to OAS! You'll have the opportunity to make sure your student is seen by a health care professional for sick visits immunizations and physicals. Make sure to sign and return the consent form.

Finally, I want to encourage families, especially 8th grade families, to check out the JCPS Showcase of Schools coming up November 2nd. It's a great way to see what JCPS has to offer your student as you begin to consider high school. I would even encourage 7th grade families to stop by- it's never too soon to start planning!

Blessings,

Principal Shelby

Meet Ms. Roederer, 8th Grade ELA Teacher

Name: Stephanie Roederer

Background in Education: This is my 17th year overall and my 13th year at OAS.

Fun Fact: Before I was a teacher, I lived in Chicago and worked downtown on Michigan Avenue for two years.

Who was your favorite teacher when you were in school and why: Ms. King, my 7th grade creative writing teacher. She gave us tons of fun writing prompts, and she was the first person to tell me I am a good writer.

Words you live by: "Only when it's dark enough can you see the stars." Martin Luther King, Jr. This quote reminds me that if we didn't go through hard times, we wouldn't be able to appreciate the good things.

Exciting Opportunities! Exciting Opportunities!

The Family Health Center is Coming to Olmsted South!

Recently your child brought home an information and consent packet from the Family Health Center that is located inside Iroquois High School.

The consent will allow the Nurse Practitioner from the FHC to see your child for sick visits, immunizations, physicals and more!

We are excited to announce that we will soon offer Telehealth provided by the FHC. Telehealth allows your child to be seen by the provider without leaving school! We use specialized equipment that allows the provider to examine your child’s ears, nose, throat, and even listen to their heart and lungs.

Please complete the consent and return it to the OAS nurse.

Counseling

Red Ribbon Week is a substance

abuse prevention delivery system that promotes academic excellence through prevention.

During this week there are a variety of program experiences and activities that increase students knowledge about the destructive effects of drug and alcohol abuse. Yearly, students renew their commitment to live a healthy drug-free lifestyle.

Parents that communicate to their child about the risk are up to 50% less likely to use drugs than those that do not.

Join Our Parent Organizations!

  • The OAS PTSA needs someone to fill the President position so we can be in compliance with district and state PTSA. If we cannot get someone to serve in this position we will not be able to have a PTSA this school year.

We need a parent to serve on the district Parent Advisory Council. These meetings are monthly.

  • OAS needs two parents to serve on the SBDM council. We meet once a month on typically the third Thursday of the month. (Must pass a background check per state requirements)

Anyone interested in joining either committee may email Mr. Schuler at Kyle.Schuler@jefferson.kyschools.us
