PRINCIPAL MESSAGE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE

Today, we conducted our first lockdown drill, and our students did an excellent job! The purpose of these drills is to ensure that both students and staff know exactly what to do in the event of an emergency. Just like our fire drills, practicing helps everyone remain calm and prepared should an unlikely situation ever occur.

At Tatarian Elementary, our goal is for every student to Achieve Their Greatest Potential and grow into Future Leaders of tomorrow. One way we support our students is by encouraging them to follow our Criteria for

Success through S.O.A.R.:

S – Show Respect

O – Offer Kindness

A – Act Responsibly

R – Ready to Learn

By modeling and practicing these expectations every day, we are helping our students build strong character, make positive choices, and develop the skills they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Together, we can help our students S.O.A.R. to success!

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Markarian and Mrs. Valdez

ACCELERATED READER (AR) -- WHAT IS IT? HOW DOES IT HELP? ACCELERATED READER (AR) -- WHAT IS IT? HOW DOES IT HELP?

Each year, Tatarian participates in Accelerated Reader (AR). This program is a valuable tool that helps encourage and monitor your child's independent reading practice for grades 1st-6th.

Our goal is to foster a love of reading while helping our students grow in fluency, vocabulary and understanding.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • students select books at their appropriate reading level
  • after reading, students take a short quiz on the book
  • AR quizzes can only be done at school
  • the quiz helps assess comprehension and tracks their reading progress

AT THE END OF EACH QUARTER:
  • students who meet their AR goal (see chart below) can choose a donut or duck
  • students who meet their semester goal, earn a certificate at the awards assembly

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT:

  • encouraging daily reading at home
  • talking about the books your child is reading

PARENT--TEACHER MEETINGS PARENT--TEACHER MEETINGS

Parent -- teacher meetings are a great time to connect, celebrate your child’s achievements, address concerns or talk through ways to work together to help your child socially or academically. We encourage you to schedule a time to talk with your child's teacher if needed.

To set up a time to talk or meet, we encourage you to reach out to the classroom teacher by email, Parent Square, or ClassDojo. You may also call our school office to arrange a time to meet with the teacher if that works best. This ensures the teacher can give you their full attention and dedicate time needed to address your child's progress and/or needs.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work together for your child’s success.

RECESS EXPECTATIONS RECESS EXPECTATIONS

Parents, we want to clarify the expectations of having no more then 4 students in a group. The goal and purpose is to ensure students are safe and engaged as smaller groups can be monitored more effectively.

This expectation does not apply when playing an organized activity such as basketball, four square, and soccer etc.

TK GRADE LEVEL NEWS TK GRADE LEVEL NEWS

TK is off to a great start! We are happy to share that we are successfully learning to follow procedures, routines, and classroom rules. We have each implemented a positive behavior system that works best for our class and rewards students for great behavior! We have been focusing on the character trait, “Kindness” and learning how to be a kind friend to others.

In TK we are practicing how to hold a pencil and learning beginning handwriting skills. The students have been dot printing their names, drawing family pictures, making handprints, and learning the first letter of their names.

We are planning to go on our first field trip in October. We will be joining Kindergarten classes to go to the Pumpkin Patch. In the Spring, we will take a study trip to either the Chaffee Zoo or Storyland. This is a great learning experience for the children!

Parents are welcome to volunteer in the classroom following parent-teacher conference week in October.

We are looking forward to an exciting school year!
