Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
I love the month of November! The weather change seems to signal us to stay in, cook hearty meals and create a warm and welcoming environment. Of course, we're Oregonians, so we still go outside whenever possible. Please make sure your children come to school properly dressed for being outside in cooler, drizzly weather. And consider labeling all their jackets and sweaters that they may leave on the playground so we can return them.
We will be studying the character trait GRATITUDE this month. We define gratitude as choosing to appreciate things in our lives. Counselor Brittany Erspamer has shared her monthly Counseling Corner with us this week. She has included her monthly newsletter, activities and lots of resources - to view everything, please click on Ms E's Counselor's Corner below. An additional activity, which I like to do whenever I have leftover pumpkins, is making thankful pumpkins. Grab some markers, a pumpkin or two, and let everyone write down something (or lots of things) they are thankful or grateful for. It's a creative and fun way to teach and instill gratitude. You could also do this with paper placemats or a table runner at Thanksgiving - or any day of the month!
At Hallinan, we have a lot to be grateful for, our beautiful school, outstanding staff, generous PTO, caring and supportive families and amazing students. I am grateful every day I have the opportunity to watch our students learn and thrive at Hallinan.
with gratitude,
Melissa Griffiths

How to Find Your Child's iReady Report
iReady assessments, a diagnostic tool for the purpose of providing specific data to assist in instructional planning have been posted to ParentVUE for 1st through 5th graders. This tool measures student performance linked to end-of-year standards, so students have not yet been exposed to much of the material in the assessment questions. We use these scores in conjunction with classroom work as well as daily, weekly, monthly, and term assessments to identify students' strengths and areas for improvement. You can find iReady reports by clicking on this link: ParentVUE and then on the documents tab.

Update to the book list: Ten by Shamini Flint has been dropped from this year's list as sourcing the book has been difficult. The 3rd-5th Grade teams will Battle over the remaining 15 OBOB Books for 2022-23.
Goals for November and December: Identify book coverage for the team members, name your team, and read, ReAd, READ!!! Please contact your OBOB Co-Chairs at hallinanobobteam@gmail.com with any questions. Coaches - You will be receiving a registration confirmation email if your team members have submitted forms.

Safe Oregon
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.
(Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
