Plan Your Week
As we enter our fourth week of school, sporting events, after-school clubs, and activities are in full swing. Here's a look at the week ahead.
🚨Remember, September 1 is a holiday.🚨
Teacher of the Month
We are excited to announce that Mr. Coleman has been selected as our August/September Teacher of the Month.
Over the summer, he worked tirelessly, without air conditioning, to set up the chemistry lab.
He continues to give it his all each day, both inside and outside the classroom. His humor and wisdom are qualities our scholars admire and appreciate, and we are grateful for the dedication and energy he brings to SJCA.

Needle Arts Club: K-12
On Tuesdays, K-12 scholars can participate in our Needle Arts Club. No experience is needed. If you're new to this hobby, you'll start with finger-knitting. If you have some experience, you can crochet.
Our goal this year is to make blankets and plushies for those in need.
Upper school scholars, if you'd like to volunteer to help, you may. To do so, please email Sarah.Kujawa@stjca.org. Please do not sign up for the class if you plan to volunteer. Volunteers will assist scholars with their projects. (Phones will be away).
K-2 scholars must have a parent with them. Parents must complete a Level II background check.
Sports Club: K-6
Overtime Athletics will offer a weekly sports club that meets after school on Wednesdays until 2:15pm. The club offers six-week sessions, which includes warm up, skills, drills, and games. At the end of the six weeks, another session will begin.
Scholars will play a different sport every week, including basketball, soccer, flag football, and kickball.
Scholars should bring outdoor clothes to school and will change during dismissal. Coaches will pick scholars up from their class and take them to play on the outdoor field.
Start date: September 10
The first six-week session runs from September 10-October 15.
Safety Patrollers Help Start the Year Off Right
Our Safety Patrol has been out and about this week, working hard to make sure all scholars—especially our kindergartners—made it safely to their classrooms. They brightened the halls with smiles, encouragement, and cheer, lifting spirits whenever a little scholar felt sad.
We are so grateful for their dedication and kindness!

Classroom Corner
Astronomy Lesson
Ms. Freeman's fifth grade class worked on their first astronomy experiment in class.
Exploring the Scientific Method
Sixth grade scholars in Mrs. Croft's room used Everlasting Gobstoppers to explore the scientific method and understand the different components of an experiment.
They first determined whether a gobstopper dissolved more quickly in hot water or cold water, then designed an experiment to see if another common household liquid would have a better result.
The conclusion was that hot water was by far the fastest way to dissolve an Everlasting Gobstopper, but a surprising second was micellar water!
Procedural Reminders
Virtue of the Month: Courage
We strive to do what we know to be right despite fear, hardship, and opposition. We resist negative peer pressure, defend our rights and the rights of others, and encourage others to do the same.
