Steck Weekly Announcements 10.31.25

We are looking forward to a fun day with our fall parade and party. Thank you to Steck PTA and volunteers for providing the fall party! Families are welcome to visit Steck to watch the outdoor parade. We recommend walking to Steck or parking in the street due to limited parking in our lot. We ask that visitors spread out while here viewing the parade. The parade route is here. We will start at door 1 and go toward McCoy, around the back of the building, and back in door 12. Please find a spot that is comfortable for you anywhere on the parade route. Our parade is closely supervised by staff.
When the parade is over, students, staff, and PTA party volunteers return to classrooms for the Fall Party. All others visitors are asked to leave at that time. The PTA Fall Party includes fall-themed activities and a snack.
Enjoy the weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Pohlmann

Fall Book Fair
Steck’s Fall Book Fair is coming! The fair will be held in the LMC from Monday, November 3rd to Friday, November 7th. Family night is November 5th. Here’s what you need to know…
Teacher Feature
Wow - we are overwhelmed by the many notes of appreciation for our teachers. In the first week, we had 103 Teacher Features notes turned in. Thank you!
Would your student like to celebrate a Steck teacher or staff member? Teacher Feature is just for you! Students (and families) are invited to honor a teacher with a Teacher Feature entry. Students can pick up a nomination form in the office of print one at home. There are two options for students to honor a teacher - write a note or draw a picture. Be sure to include the student and teacher name. Forms can be returned near the school office. Every form turned in will be presented to the teacher and some names will be drawn as the lucky winner of our Staff Member of the Week Rock Star Parking. We love our teachers!
School Safety and Security
Students can submit entries to the Safety Contest - Now through Sunday, November 9!
With the rise in school threats locally and nationwide, it's important for us to foster a culture of safety and responsibility among our students. IPSD 204's second annual safety contest titled "Safer, Stronger Side by Side” is now open. Students are invited to create posters, digital designs, or PSAs to raise awareness about the importance of alleviating school threats—whether real, hoaxes, or made in jest—reporting any threats to law enforcement or a trusted adult and recognizing the vital role everyone plays in keeping our schools safe.
Submissions are due by Sunday, November 9. Students with winning entries will receive prizes (valued up to $500) and their contest submission will be featured on the district's social media and website, helping to spread awareness around this important topic.
Learn more about the safety contest at ipsd.org/safetycontest.
A special thank you to Rival5 for their generous sponsorship of our safety contest.
SPARCtacular Science Series
Researchers at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois, are exploring the smallest, basic building blocks of matter, called fundamental elementary particles. They build special devices to make, catch, and study these particles. Neutrinos are the lightest known fundamental particles with mass, and they are very hard to catch—but they’re also crucially important for understanding how our universe came into existence! Some scientists are investigating how neutrinos are created from exploding stars, some design tools and write computer code to imagine and predict how neutrinos move and bump into matter, and others are curious about how many types of neutrinos exist. The SPARCtacular Science Series will explain how studying neutrinos can help us understand what our universe is made of, and how it works!
Mini Seminars, Mighty Minds: Inspiring the Next Generation of Thinkers in collaboration with:
Dr. Thomas Bussey, Teaching Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, UC San Diego
Dr. Natalie Johnson, Head of Education and Public Engagement, Fermilab
Dr. Stephanie Ryan, CEO, Ryan Education Consulting
This series is designed for 5th graders and their families; however, Fermilab welcomes all interested grade levels. Learn about the fascinating world of scientific wonders studied at Fermilab! Check out this flier for information about this science program.
