Superintendent & Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians and Families:
We hope this message finds you well. We want to thank you all for your continued dedication to our students. At the recent GLTS Legislative Breakfast on 2/28, hosted by Superintendent Lavoie, key information was shared about the exciting initiatives and ongoing projects across our school. These updates included the expansion of our CTE programs, new workforce development opportunities, and the development of new facilities that will further enhance our students' learning experiences.
To ensure everyone stays informed, We've attached the slides from the breakfast and a press release that highlight these important updates. We want to keep you all in the loop regarding the many initiatives taking place across GLTS, as your collaboration is vital to the success of our school's mission.

SKILLSUSA DISTRICT COMPETITION
We want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work that went into Fiday's SkillsUSA district competition. With 101 students participating in district testing, we are hopeful for strong results and proud of our students' efforts. This would not have been possible without the dedication of our SkillsUSA advisors, Audra Durkin and Mike Ouellette, along with the many coaches and staff who helped prepare our students for success. In addition, staff members gave their time to support district testing and generously allowed the use of their space. The flexibility and support of our school community plays a vital role in providing these valuable opportunities for our students.
We are proud of our students that took part in SkillsUSA!
GLTS Adv Manufacturing Students Visited by NASA HUNCH Program Representatives
GLTS students in Advanced Manufacturing, Robotics & Automation, Metal Fabrication, and Environmental Science recently had the incredible opportunity to host NASA HUNCH representatives and sign a stowage locker that will travel to the International Space Station. Through this partnership, led by Instructor Don Ouellette, our students have been machining latch knobs for NASA, an achievement no other high school has successfully accomplished. This hands-on experience not only sets them apart in their future careers but also opens doors to exciting opportunities, including a paid summer internship for three juniors. We are proud of their hard work and dedication. Congrats to all involved! Please click on the button below to read the press release from the event.
Mr. Jackson's Non Evaluative Learning Walks - 3/7 in the Social Studies Department
At GLTS, we continue to be committed to providing students with meaningful, engaging learning experiences that prepare them for success in and beyond the classroom. On Thursday, March 7, I had the opportunity to visit Social Studies classrooms as part of our ongoing learning walks. I was joined by Brendon Sullivan, Assistant Principal for Humanities, and Panagiota Athinelis, Director of Teaching and Learning, as we observed the important and impactful work happening in our Social Studies department.
Throughout our visits, we saw students actively participating in discussions, analyzing historical events, and drawing connections between the past and the present. Some key highlights included:
- Engagement with historical topics, including World War I, North Korean propaganda, the post-WWII division of Korea, and Pearl Harbor.
- Exploration of constitutional principles, with students discussing the 8th and 14th Amendments, civil rights movements, and the role of media in shaping public perception.
- Connections between history and modern politics, helping students develop a deeper understanding of how historical events continue to influence today’s world.
- Critical thinking and analysis, as students made inferences, debated different perspectives, and evaluated sources.
- A positive and engaging learning environment, with students enthusiastically participating in discussions and collaborative activities.
It was exciting to see our students actively engaged in their learning, asking thoughtful questions, making real-world connections, and developing the skills necessary to become informed, engaged citizens. These experiences not only build their academic knowledge but also empower them to think critically about the world around them. We look forward to continuing to celebrate the incredible learning happening at GLTS! My next learning walk is in Math on 3/21.

CTE UPDATE
Throughout February, we proudly celebrated Career & Technical Education (CTE) Month—a nationwide awareness campaign led by the Association for Career & Technical Education (ACTE) and sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders.
This month was filled with inspiring guest speakers, celebrations of student achievements, and recognition of the diverse backgrounds that enrich our CTE programs. To highlight these moments, we’ve put together a presentation showcasing some of the incredible celebrations that took place.
We are immensely proud of our CTE students as they continue to break barriers and accomplish amazing things!

#SELday
GLTS celebrated SEL day on Monday, March 10, 2025. During all lunches, the GLTS Adjustment counselors hosted an SEL table in the cafeteria to celebrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and promote SEL skills. As we work to prepare students for a successful future, we know that social and emotional learning helps provide a foundation of durable skills – skills help us thrive in our careers, communities, and lives.

GLTS STUDENT COUNCIL ATTENDS STATE CONFERENCE
We are excited to share that six of our students recently attended the MASC (Massachusetts Association of Student Councils) Spring Conference. This incredible opportunity allowed them to participate in hands-on leadership workshops, hear from motivational speakers, and network with student leaders from across the state.
Our students are eager to bring back what they have learned to GLTS, using their experiences to enhance our school’s culture and climate for all. Their enthusiasm and dedication to leadership will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our community.
Please join us in congratulating these students on their commitment to making GLTS an even better place for everyone!
