Disability Inclusive Curriculum

The Disability Inclusive Curriculum Toolkit, as added to the Pennsylvania Public School Code in the Summer of 2022, is intended to instruct all K-12 students on the political, economic, and social contributions of individuals with disabilities. It also aims to increase the accurate and regular representation of disability throughout all aspects of school to help learners understand that disability is a natural part of the human condition.

Disability Equality Education

Disability Equality Education brings a unique disability perspective to education as we have developed a strong network of experts on inclusive education through lesson plans and resources. We believe that disability in education has to be part of all diversity and intersectional conversations.

Why Can't Johnny Calm Himself? Rethinking Regulation for Student Success

November 17, 2026 ~ 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Students may struggle to regulate their behavior for many reasons, including challenging or uninteresting tasks, sensory experiences, frustration, or difficulty accessing preferred activities. This session will explore why common approaches to teaching students to just “calm down” is not always effective and introduce calm counts as a flexible approach for developing regulation repertoires. Participants will examine the role of motivation, practice, shaping, and context in supporting regulation and discuss common strategies when introducing calm counts.
