Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Program
HOBY is excited to kick off the 2025-26 HOBY program year and develop another cohort of youth leaders that will give back to our communities through leadership and service.
What is HOBY?
Since 1958, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) has provided transformative leadership development training that has positively impacted the lives of over 500,000 high school students in the U.S. and abroad. At HOBY, high school sophomores build their leadership potential through an inspiring three- or four-day Leadership Seminar based on three leadership perspectives: Personal, Group, and Societal. As many as 8,500 “ambassadors” from high schools across the state or country gather at their local HOBY State Leadership Seminar between April and June.
What would I do in the HOBY Leadership Seminar?
- At HOBY, high school sophomores explore their leadership potential through inspiring leadership development programs. State Leadership Seminars are three-to-four day residential programs, typically held on a college or university campus.
- Regardless of format, HOBY Leadership Seminars are highly interactive programs, following HOBY's leadership development curriculum which allows students to discover leadership from a personal, group and socially responsible perspective.
- Student “Ambassadors” from across their state participate in State Leadership Seminars between April and June each year, building a network of positive community change-makers and a wider network of HOBY Alumni.
- After each seminar, HOBY alumni are challenged to complete 100 hours of community service within the next year as a way to put their passion and newly built leadership skills into action.
Where and when is the State Leadership Seminar?
This year, the PA HOBY Seminar will take place June 5th - June 8th and will be on campus but which college campus is TBD!
Who can join the State Leadership Seminar?
The Leadership Seminar is only for sophomores, so don’t miss out! If interested, students can apply by completing the form that is linked below. Mrs. deQuevedo and other Lakeland staff will review form submissions and contact those students who were chosen.
How many students can participate? How will this be paid for?
Up to three students from Lakeland may participate, and Lakeland usually covers any registration fees that are included.
When should I apply by?
The Lakeland portion of the HOBY application is due by December 1st, 2025.
