➕ Math Update: May Review

During the month of May, students will be reviewing important math skills they have learned throughout the year in 4th grade. Our goal is to help strengthen understanding and master key skills, while building confidence as students finish the school year strong!

This review will include:

  • Multiplication and division
  • Fractions and decimals
  • Geometry and measurement
  • Problem-solving strategies

🏡 How You Can Help at Home

  • Practice math facts (multiplication/division) for fluency
  • Ask your child to explain how they solved a problem
  • Use real-life math (cooking, shopping, telling time)
  • Encourage them to check their work and take their time

Thank you for supporting your child’s learning—we’re almost at the finish line! 🎉📊

Science🔬

🔬 Science Update: STEM Project & Review

During the month of May, students will participate in a fun, hands-on STEM project while reviewing important science concepts learned throughout the year.

As part of this project, students will:

  • Review key topics, including animal adaptations and how living things survive in their environments
  • Use creativity and problem-solving to design and build a STEM-based project
  • Apply what they’ve learned in a meaningful, real-world way

This is a great opportunity for students to show their understanding while working collaboratively and thinking like scientists!

🏡 How You Can Help at Home

  • Talk about different animals and how they survive in their environments
  • Watch nature shows or read books about animals together
  • Encourage your child to explain their project ideas
  • Support creativity by allowing them to build or design at home

We’re excited to see their creativity and learning come to life! 🧠🌿

ELA📚

In ELA, students are wrapping up the year by strengthening their reading and writing skills through engaging texts. Students are reading Number the Stars, a historical fiction novel set during World War II.

Through this novel, students are learning to:

  • Understand characters, setting, and plot
  • Explain important themes like courage, friendship, and doing what is right
  • Use evidence from the text to support their thinking
  • Discuss and write about what they read in a clear, organized way

You can support your child with simple conversations and activities:

  • Talk about the story – Ask: “What happened today?” or “What would you do in that situation?”
  • Make connections – Help your child connect the story to real life (helping others, showing kindness)
  • Read together – Take turns reading or have your child summarize what they read
  • Encourage writing – Ask your child to write a few sentences about their favorite part or a lesson they learned
  • Build vocabulary – Talk about new or unfamiliar words from the story

This unit helps students grow not just as readers, but as thoughtful and compassionate individuals. 💙📚

Social Studies📜

🌟 Social Studies Unit: Texas Culture

In this unit, students will learn about the rich and diverse cultures that make Texas unique. We will explore how people from different racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds have helped shape our state.

Students will:

  • Learn about important customs, celebrations, and traditions across Texas, such as Cinco de Mayo, Oktoberfest, and Fiesta San Antonio
  • Discover how artists have influenced Texas culture, including Lydia Mendoza, Chelo Silva, and Julius Lorenzo Cobb Bledsoe
  • Understand how different cultures contribute to the traditions, music, and daily life in Texas

🏡 How You Can Help at Home

  • Talk about your own family traditions and celebrations
  • Attend or learn about local cultural events and festivals
  • Listen to music from different cultures and discuss it together
  • Encourage your child to share what they’ve learned
🎉 Fun Fact:
Did you know Fiesta San Antonio started over 100 years ago and includes parades, music, and food that celebrate many different cultures in Texas?
