The Lions Roar is Riverwalk Academy's weekly athletic newsletter. Each week we will keep you updated about what is going on in our athletic program. Introduce you to one of our student athletes, and provide you with information that is beneficial to you and your athlete as they strive to improve every day.

What can you say and do that will positively influence your team?

Sports physicals for the 24-25 year must be dated after April 1, 2024. Athletic physicals, as well as other necessary document, must be uploaded into planetHS before students are allowed to participate in athletics.

While there has been a lot of support for our neighbors in the mountains that have been hit so hard by Hurricane Helene, our athletic department wanted to show our support to our local community as well. Winthrop University has been closed all week and the students on campus are in need of food items that are small and easily transportable. We will be collecting items such as granola bars, pop tarts, ramen noodles and microwaveable meals until Monday for Winthrop students. Please drop off these items in room D19 at York Tech or contact Mr. Ball at rball@riverwalkacademy.com.

Let us help you with dinner while helping Riverwalk Cross Country! Order and pay online by 4:00 on October 14, drive up to Riverwalk Academy - main student drop off between 4:00 - 5:00 on October 15 and we will place your Family Taco Kit in your car and off you go!

National Coaches Day is Sunday, October 6. Help us celebrate our coaches by shining a light on the significant influence they have on athletes, both on and off the field.

Please take time to thank our coaches for their hard work and recognizing all they do for the athletes they mentor .

Post a picture of your student athlete with their coach on social media on October 6th! Make sure to tag Riverwalk Academy Athletics on your post.

We have some amazing coaches at Riverwalk. I want to encourage our athletes and parents to take the time to nominate a coach for the Positive Coaches Alliance Coach of the Year.

The nomination window is open for the Positive Coaching Alliance Coach of the Year 2025! Coaches have a unique ability to positively impact kids through sports, and we work tirelessly every year to identify those who stand-out in their efforts! There are both Regional and National winners - take a moment to think about coaches who you can spotlight by nominating them! Consider coaches you've witnessed or people you have coached with, or even the person who coaches your own child. We receive nominations for coaches of both youth and high school athletes, so jump-in and bring someone to our attention!

Looking for a way to show off your school pride? We have stickers available for purchase on the school store for $5.00.

Athletic fees can be paid in the school store. These must be paid before your student competes in an athletic competition. Fees are used to help offset all costs associated with running an athletic program (League dues, uniforms, official costs, transportation, rental fees, etc.). Please reach out to Mr. Ball if you have any questions or need assistance.

Student athletes that are part of a varsity team before the first competition and remain with the team throughout the year will earn a varsity letter.

Letterman jackets can be purchased through Jostens.

The basic letterman's jacket for Riverwalk Academy has already been designed and can be found on the website. From there you can customize the jacket to fit your taste.
