The Birth of Hispanic Heritage Week!
Hispanic Heritage Month originally started as Hispanic Heritage Week on September 17, 1968, when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Public Law 90-48 into effect. California Congressman George E. Brown, who represented East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley—areas with large Hispanic populations—introduced the legislation to recognize the significant role Hispanic communities have played throughout American history.
