BRAHMA BRIEFING
DIAMOND BAR HIGH SCHOOL
Monthly Awareness and Heritage Observances
September 15 - October 15
National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 through October 15 and is a time to recognize and celebrate the vibrant cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. It is a chance to learn from the stories of generations past, celebrate the accomplishments of those shaping our world today, and appreciate the many traditions and perspectives that enrich our communities.
Being Brahma Branded means embracing our differences, honoring our heritage, and creating a community where every student feels seen and valued. This month, let’s celebrate the culture, traditions, and contributions of our Hispanic and Latino Brahmas and the many ways they help make our school community stronger.
Month of October
Filipino American History Month is celebrated each October and offers an opportunity to recognize the lasting impact of Filipino Americans throughout history and today. From cultural traditions and family values to leadership, innovation, and community service, Filipino Americans have helped shape our nation in countless ways. This month invites us to learn their stories, honor their heritage, and celebrate the many contributions that continue to inspire future generations.
Being Brahma Branded means celebrating the unique experiences and backgrounds that make our community special. Let’s take this opportunity to recognize our Filipino American Brahmas, honor their heritage, and appreciate how their stories, traditions, and contributions strengthen our Brahma Family.
Month of October
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed each October to raise awareness about breast cancer, encourage early detection, and honor the individuals and families whose lives have been impacted by the disease. This month is also an opportunity to recognize survivors, remember loved ones, and show support for those currently facing a breast cancer diagnosis. Through education, compassion, and community support, we can help spread awareness and remind others that no one has to face this journey alone.
Being Brahma Branded means showing compassion, standing together, and supporting one another through life’s challenges. This month, let’s unite as a Brahma Family to spread awareness, encourage preventive care, and honor the strength and resilience of those impacted by breast cancer. Together, we can make a difference through education, support, and hope.

Senior College & Scholarship Updates — October 2026
Seniors, college application season is underway. Here are some important reminders, resources, and upcoming deadlines.
UC & CSU Applications
UC and CSU applications are now open and may be submitted beginning October 1. The application deadline is November 30. Students should begin their applications through their California Colleges account using their school Google account. DBHS transcript information will automatically transfer into the application, but students should carefully verify all courses and grades and manually enter coursework completed at other schools or colleges.
Remember that UC and CSU do not use SAT or ACT scores for admission. Students should carefully review their applications before submitting, particularly senior-year courses, summer school coursework, repeated courses, and any classes taken through Mt. SAC or another institution.
Financial Aid
The 2027–28 FAFSA is now available. Students should launch the FAFSA through their California Colleges account, even if they have already completed it, so DBHS can track completion.
DBHS will also host a Financial Aid Workshop on Thursday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the theater. Students and families are encouraged to attend to learn more about FAFSA and the financial aid process.
Students applying to private colleges should also determine whether their schools require the CSS Profile, which became available October 1.
Private College Applications
Students applying through the Common Application should make sure their Education and Academics sections are complete and that their GLC has been properly invited. Students should also verify the Preferred Start Term (Fall 2027) and appropriate admission plan for every college.
The September 24 deadline to request a GLC letter of recommendation has passed. Students who submitted requests on time should focus on completing their own application requirements and meeting each university's deadlines.
Students are strongly encouraged to write application essays in their own authentic voice rather than relying on generative AI to create their responses.
National Merit Recognition
Congratulations to DBHS seniors Jalen Cai, Charles Chang, Aidan Dai, Fiona Dai, Lucas Lee, Ayaan Rauf, Yuhan Shi, Justin Tran, William Tung, Tzu-Yu Wu, Emily Xie, Qingyuan Zhang, and Zachary Shi, who have been named National Merit Scholar Semifinalists after scoring among the top students nationally on last year's PSAT.
College & Career Center
Students should continue checking the College & Career Center calendar for upcoming college visits and follow @brahmaccc on Instagram for updates.
Students interested in U.S. Military Academies should also be aware of congressional nomination deadlines. Applications for Rep. Linda Sánchez's nomination process are due October 8, and Sen. Alex Padilla's deadline is October 31.
Scholarship Deadlines
Several major scholarship opportunities are approaching, including:
NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing: October 27
Jefferson Scholars Foundation – DBHS nomination request: November 1
Chick-fil-A Community Scholars: November 3
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship: November 11

Mandatory E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety Training
Students who plan to ride an e-bike or e-scooter to or from school must complete the online e-bike and e-scooter safety and policy training. This training ensures students understand traffic laws, safety expectations, and the specific regulations related to e-bike and e-scooter use. The course covers key topics such as traffic laws and local ordinances, safe operation of e-bikes and e-scooters, and licensing and age requirements.
To register for the e-bike and e-scooter safety training, go to https://www.pedalace.com/wvusd and complete the self-enrollment process. You will need to provide your name, student ID number, and student WVUSD email address. After registering, you will receive instructions to begin the online training. When finished, PedalAce will send a completion certificate along with instructions for obtaining the WVUSD sticker for the student’s e-bike or e-scooter.
Students must place the WVUSD sticker on the handlebars of their e-bike or e-scooter and must wear a helmet while riding. E-bikes and e-scooters without the WVUSD completion sticker will not be permitted on campus.
