Lost and Found Clean-Up

Have you noticed that you are missing PE shirts, outdoor coats, or water bottles? Please remind your students to check the Lost and Found. If items have name tags, we will do our best to re-unite them with your student. However, we have in increasing collection of unclaimed and unlabeled items.

There will be a Lost and Found Clean-Up and Clean-Out on Monday November 23 and Tuesday November 24. (Thanksgiving Week). The Lost and Found will be re-located in the Markell Lobby. For those parents attending school conferences, please take a look through the Lost and Found with your students and collect any items that belong to your family. Any items remaining after Tuesday night will be given to the PALS Uniform Sales or donated.

Wednesday was Disney Day at school! There were lots of Disney characters, Disney shirts, and Minnie/Mickey Mouse ears around the school. Wednesday was Disney Day at school! There were lots of Disney characters, Disney shirts, and Minnie/Mickey Mouse ears around the school.

Cancelled Franklin Academy Private Day at the SPARK Museum!

Due to Governor Inslee's most recent announcement with regards to COVID-19 restrictions, the SPARK Museum will be closed and our Ben Franklin Day will be postponed to a later date when the museum can be open again. We will let you all know when we can solidify a rescheduled date.

While the Governor's restrictions effect this event, they do not impact the Franklin Academy's ability to remain open for in person instruction. We continue to follow our safety protocols and remain vigilant so we are able to continue offering quality in-person learning.

Sincerely,

Katie den Hartog, M.Ed.

Associate Head of School

Bellingham Holiday Arts Market - has gone virtual!

The Allied Arts of Whatcom County's 41st Annual Holiday Festival of the Arts (now the Bellingham Holiday Arts Market) is now a virtual market! Starting, Friday, November 20th, you can shop and look at over 100 artists (Miss Rachel Simpson and her Rachel's Whimsical Arts is one of them), and crafts online for the winter holidays: https://market.alliedarts.org/

Auction Items are being donated every day!

Proceeds from the Auction go to support the General Budget. Tuition only covers about 60% of the cost to educate each student. We make up that cost each year by hosing an Auction and promoting the Annual Fund.

How can I help?

  • Provide donations directly from you or your business - merchandise, services, gift certificates, cash etc.
  • Sponsor the event - there are many levels to choose from - this is great visibility for your business
  • Be an underwriter - cover the cost of an auction item
  • Purchase advertising space in the Gala Auction Catalog - Full Page $200 Half Page $100

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. hblack@thefranklin.academy

Thank you,

Heather Black Auction Coordinator

Take Flight for your Next Special Occasion!

Fly with our commercially licensed pilots in a colorful hot air balloon!

Since 1978 ballooning has been our passion and profession. Trust our nearly 40 years of experience to bring you the best adventure hot air ballooning has to offer.

Our guests help us with the inflation, then rise above the earth on a safe, yet exciting and exhilarating flight.

The flights start soon after sunrise or just before sunset when the air is at its calmest.

Because the balloons can only drift with the wind once they are launched, we make our ascent upwind of an area known to have a large number of good landing sites. For this reason our launch sites vary depending on the wind direction at flight time. Flights are of course weather permitting.

We at the BALLOON DEPOT have been flying in the beautiful valleys of the Puget Sound region since our founding; this long, accident-free experience enables us to provide you with the best possible flight. We may brush through the treetops, sweep down over a field of wildflowers, skim over a pond, or climb high above the earth for a spectacular view. Each flight is a unique experience.

For more information about trips visit their website: https://balloondepot.com/

This Package Includes:

  • Sunset Landing evening flight with traditional sparkling beverage celebration upon landing. Offered Daily April through October
  • Two Passengers

The Reading Corner with Mrs. Samuel & Mrs. Snyder

Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope you have a great, safe holiday this year. Mrs. Snyder and I are thankful for books and for our students!

This week in grade 2-4 library, students wrote thank you notes to their teacher. It was a surprise for them and I delivered them to teachers on Friday. Please enjoy some of the lovely examples attached. What great kids!

Kindergarten and First Graders are so lucky to have a librarian who is also a music teacher! To encourage students to look at and choose books without touching them too much (COVID safe!), Mrs. Snyder flipped the books to the back or inside cover, where the book summary is, and then sang to them:

Read the Back! (To the tune of Be Our Guest)

Read the back,

Or the flap,

For the answers that you lack.

If it piques your curiosity

You'll pick it from the stacks.

Finding what is in store,

Is it fun or just a bore?

You might decide to read a little more.

Just turn the book around,

There's so much to be found.

So read the back,

Or the flap,

Read the back!

I have been humming that tune all week!

Happy Reading,

Mrs. Samuel

Mrs. Samuel's Favorite Joke of the Week

Joke:

What instrument does a turkey play?

The drumsticks!
