School Bond 2022

No tax rate increase means no tax rate increase

No tax rate increase is anticipated with the proposed $992 million school bond. However, ballot language will include the statement, “THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE.” Legislation passed in the 2019 Texas Legislative Session requires that school districts include this language, regardless of the bond’s impact on the district’s tax rate. This law only applies to school district bonds. You will not see this language on other governmental entities' bond proposals.

The district has the capacity to issue additional bonds without a tax rate increase because of expected property value growth and the fact that NISD is continuously paying off prior debt.

High School credit classes and exam exemption information *Updated

Beginning March 1, students who have 3 or fewer absences in a course for the remainder of the semester are eligible to exempt their spring semester exam.
Additional criteria for exemptions are outlined below.

For Northside students in grades 6-12 who are enrolled in courses earning high school credit, students may earn an exam exemption by meeting the following criteria.

1. If the course is a full-year course, the student must have passed the first semester.

2. The student's final average for the spring semester must be a grade of 80 or higher.

3. The student's conduct grade in that class must be satisfactory “S” or better.

4. The student must attend school during the scheduled exam time.

5. The student must have 3 or fewer absences for the second semester (beginning March 1st). This excludes Excused School Business absences.

Please note: Students who are absent during the scheduled exam time will lose the exam exemption, receive an "11" as an exam grade and will be required to make up the exam during summer break.
