PRAYER
Lenten Prayer
Lord Jesus, You fasted in the wilderness and faced temptation, yet You remained faithful to the Father.
As I take on my own Lenten sacrifices, give me the strength to persevere. When I feel weak or tempted, remind me that my fasting is not about rules but about drawing closer to You.
Help me to desire You more than anything I give up. May my sacrifices lead me to deeper gratitude, greater trust, and a heart that longs for You above all else.
In Your holy name, Amen.
NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE
Dear Families,
Building strong relationships is at the heart of a thriving school community, and renowned educator Maggie Dent offers valuable insights on how connection and conflict go hand in hand. She reminds us that disagreements are a natural part of growing up, and when handled with care, they can strengthen bonds rather than break them. By fostering open communication, empathy, and resilience, we help our children navigate challenges with confidence—skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
At OLGC, we actively nurture these essential relationship skills through programs like Kimochis and UR Strong. The Kimochis program helps younger students develop emotional awareness and communication by using playful, engaging characters to explore feelings and social interactions. Meanwhile, UR Strong empowers children with the tools to build healthy friendships, resolve conflicts respectfully, and develop emotional resilience. Through these initiatives, we create a supportive environment where students feel safe to express themselves, navigate challenges, and build positive, lasting relationships.
Early Childhood parents are invited to join our Social Worker, Mrs Jenny Biancotti next Tuesday 1 April for a Parent Morning Tea at 9am in the School Hall. There will be a presentation on the Kimochis program, and information on how parents can use the language and concepts of Kimochis to support their children at home.
An information session on UR Strong will be held for parents later this year, also.
Solar Car Challenge
Congratulations to Year 6 students Horrie, Keeley, Dylan S and Mason who competed against 35 other primary schools on Tuesday, in the Synergy Solar Car Challenge. These 4 students were selected to represent OLGC, after undertaking the Solar Car Challenge tasks in STEM this term. After winning all their heats to qualify for the Semi and then Grand Final, we are very pleased to announce that they finished in 3rd place overall. A big thank you to Mrs Sammy Preston for all her efforts in preparing the students for this program.
Japanese Exchange Program
This week, our Year 5 and 6 students have been joined by 10 students from Seikei Elementary School. The students have been hosted by OLGC families, immersing themselves into Australian life both at home and at school.
This has been a wonderful experience for all students, enabling us to gainer a deeper appreciation for each others culture. They Seikei students will be presenting to our students some information about their school and culture, after tomorrow's assembly. Parents are very welcome to stay and watch this presentation.
60th Anniversary Celebrations
A reminder to parents to please RSVP for the 60th Anniversary Mass and Morning Tea, if you are planning to attend. Please also extend the invitation to any OLGC Alumni that may wish to attend.

LENT
Last week, we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, honouring the patron saint of Ireland and his dedication to spreading Christianity. Captured by Irish raiders as a teenager, St. Patrick found strength in his faith during captivity. After escaping, he returned to Ireland as a missionary, establishing churches, schools, and monasteries. He famously used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, a symbol still associated with him today.
Following this, we observed the Solemnity of St. Joseph, recognising his unwavering faith and role as the devoted spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. His humility, dedication, and trust in God serve as an inspiration to us all.
As we journey towards Easter, we prepare to celebrate Palm Sunday, marking Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The waving of palm branches reminds us of peace, hope, and the beginning of Holy Week. Soon, we will rejoice in the greatest event of our faith—Easter Sunday, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This sacred time calls us to reflect on renewal, love, and the victory of light over darkness.
May these celebrations strengthen our faith and remind us of the power of tradition, unity, and God’s enduring presence in our lives.
NAPLAN
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students for their commendable dedication and maturity during the NAPLAN testing period. We are proud of the exceptional effort and resilience they all demonstrated.
