If you are interested in attending, Dr. Bullock is working on offering professional development pay. You will need to commit, however, to attending all 5 days. The dates are July 28-Aug 1. Please email Dr. Bullock if you are interested in attending! See more information about the conference below.
This summer, prepare for a transformative experience with our expert presenters at the life-changing Conscious Discipline Institute, an education event in Easton, MD. Unlike typical professional development offerings, this week-long educator event is a powerful catalyst for personal growth and professional development. It’s an opportunity to enhance your skills and shift your perspective in a supportive and engaging environment.
Conscious Discipline, an interactive and dynamic adults-first approach, has a proven track record of transforming mindsets and improving wellbeing for nearly three decades by hosting education events, including teacher conferences, workshops, and institutes.
By learning new concepts and strategies that promote self-regulation, you can then anticipate teaching in ways that foster connection, conflict resolution and growth in others. This education event in Easton, MD will reignite your passion for your work and equip you with the tools to create an environment that cultivates composure, academic achievement, and emotional wellness for yourself and your students.
Conscious Discipline understands the struggles of everyday educators and parents. Our community develops a felt sense of safety and belonging required for learning retention, facilitates transformative practices, and fosters meaningful connections that lead to transformational change. You’ll meet and grow with like-minded people while discovering applicable strategies and tools to implement immediately.

- Schoology expectations for students in grades 1-5 are as follows:
- Add a Google Meet link to your Schoology page for students to access. Please be certain to invite the appropriate co-teachers, instructional assistants, specialists, and administration.
- Related arts specialists, you will be invited to classroom teachers' Google Meets. Please plan to pop in for a 15 minute content-related brain break for the class who you have for specials on that given day (for example, Ms. Smith may choose to read a story, while Mr. Enzor may decide to draw a picture).
- Add assignments to Schoology.
- Send home student Okta logins if you haven't already. An important note: When students sign into Google Meet, they will be required to sign in, using their student username@talbotschools.org (ie. abc123@talbotschools.org).
Below, please find directions for both Schoology and Google Meet that Mrs. Werner shared on Friday afternoon.
Car Rider Reminders
Please remember to walk your students who are car riders to the gym promptly at 2:25 when Ms. Fox makes the announcement to dismiss them. Please do not dismiss students before Ms. Fox makes the announcement. Once in the gym, please help Mr. Baum and the other adults on duty by monitoring noise level and student behavior. This will help the dismissal process move efficiently and safely. Thank you for your help!

PBIS
The beginning of the second semester is a good time to review the SMES Discipline Matrix (please see below). Please refer to this when making decisions about what is considered a classroom managed behavior versus an office managed behavior.
Equity Focus
This month, we will be working collaboratively to build a shared understanding of key concepts that are fundamental to creating an inclusive, high-quality learning environment at SMES. Specifically, our focus will be on equity, excellent instruction, and optimizing the learning environment for all students. To accomplish this, staff will engage with a variety of resources designed to spark reflection and conversation around these critical areas.
In addition to individual exploration of these resources, staff will work in vertical teams, bringing together educators from different grade levels and disciplines. This structure will encourage cross-pollination of ideas, allowing everyone to share insights, strategies, and challenges from their unique perspectives. By engaging in meaningful dialogue across the entire spectrum of our school community, we aim to align our efforts in creating an equitable, supportive, and high-impact learning environment that serves every student’s needs.
Through this collaborative process, we will not only enhance our collective understanding but also develop actionable strategies that can be implemented to ensure that our practices reflect the highest standards of equity and excellence.
