Celebrate Family Stories Month

November is recognized as Family Stories Month and what better way to celebrate than talk with those we consider family.

If you're not already familiar with Story Corps, we recommend you take a look! Their "mission is to preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world" Although we don't have a recording site around, we can still contribute to the archive by using their App or website. Don't feel like sharing but still want to have the conversation with someone you consider to be family? Check out a list of recommended questions here!

Nonfiction November

Nonfiction is often an under circulated part of any high school collection and we find that students think of it as studious, dry and/or outdated. Our goal this month is to bust that myth and prove nonfiction can be relevant and engaging!

Follow us on Twitter and/or Instagram for our Nonfiction November features!

Support Our Nonfiction Refresh!
We're looking for support via DonorsChoose to rebuild our nonfiction collection in an effort to provide students with current and culturally relevant books.

Google Trends

Google Trends is a great resource for looking at data when doing a project, research paper or if you're just curious! Google Trends "analyzes the popularity of top search queries in Google Search across various regions and languages."

This can give you access to data that might help you to draw conclusions about a location or regions interests pertaining to shopping, images, news, YouTube and web trends. This information could come in handy when working on a project for Marketing, Econ or Humanities. Take a few moments to explore what's trending!

Michigan Learning Channel

The Michigan Learning Channel is a statewide public television partnership offering instructional content to support the education of students and to provide alternative resources for families and teachers. Designed to enrich school learning, the instructional content is aligned with Michigan’s educational standards and follows widely accepted sequences for mastering skills throughout the school year.

The lessons, generally about a half hour each, are presented by a diverse group of educators, delivered as if the teacher is in a classroom setting. Nearly every program has supplemental educational activities and resources to build on the lesson.

This programming is being broadcast on special on-air channels established by each of the participating public television stations in Michigan. It is also available as a livestream and stored for on-demand viewing on a variety of digital platforms, ensuring accessibility to all students, teachers and families in the state.

All content is offered at no cost to schools, families and caregivers.
