Keeping Families Informed, Involved & Connected
Second Quarter Updates
Grading Policy Reminders
- Individual assignment grades reflect the actual score earned by the student.
- Students have five school days to complete missing work/makeup work due to absences.
- If an assignment is not submitted, a grade of zero must be entered immediately as a placeholder. If the work is completed during the allowed makeup time, the grade will be updated to reflect the completion.
- Academic progress uses a weighted system, with grades categorized as Projects/Tests (50%), Quizzes/Labs (25%), and Classwork 25%.
- As you review your child's grades throughout the quarter, keep in mind that by the end of the quarter your child should have a minimum number of grades in each subject to ensure a balance between tests, quizzes and classwork.
- Check Power School frequently
First Grading Reading Expectations
First Grade Parents,
As first-grade students develop and strengthen their reading skills, teachers will gradually transition away from reading assessment questions and answer choices aloud to students. This progression is intended to support students in developing independence and demonstrating mastery of their reading skills.
Beginning with this second quarter, all first grade students are expected to read weekly and module assessment passages independently. Teachers may only read the questions and answer choices to students.
All accommodations in 504 Plans and IEPs will continue to be followed as outlined. Please see the quarterly expectations as we progress through the school year:
Module Assessments:
Q1- Teacher reads both the
passage and the
questions/answers.
Q2- Teacher reads
questions/answers only.
Q3- Students take the entire
test independently.
Q4- Students take the entire
test independently.
If you have questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher for additional information.
⏰ Every Minute Matters: Attendance & On-Time Arrival
Regular attendance and arriving at school on time are important parts of student success. When students are present, prepared, and on time, they are ready to learn from the very beginning of the day.
Missing school or arriving late can mean missing important instruction, classroom routines, directions, and opportunities to connect with teachers and classmates. Even a few minutes each day can add up to valuable learning time.
Families can help by establishing consistent morning and bedtime routines, scheduling appointments outside of school hours when possible, and making daily attendance a priority.
💚💙 One Team, One Dream! When families and schools work together to support good attendance, we give every student the best opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed!
