This week we talked all about shapes! On Tuesday we celebrated Dot Day and it was a huge success. Thank you for all you did to make that day special for each of our littles! Some of the activities we did this week included: going on a shape hunt, making shapes out of play-dough, sorting shapes and creating a masterpiece shape collage!

Next week we will be exploring primary colors. We will be working together to identify, name and explore the three primary colors through sensory play, art, movement, and everyday classroom activities. A main goal in our PreK 3 classroom this week will be exploration while learning.

Another exciting announcement for next week: Ms. Erfurth's class will be acolyting for the first time! Students will rotate throughout the week, having a special "job" assisting in little Chapel (see week at a glance above for specifics). Parents and/or grandparents are welcome to join at 8:30am to watch their child participate in serving in Little Chapel.

PK3 have started to check out one library book on Thursdays. They will need to return their book on Tuesdays each week (grace period to Thursday) to be able to check out a new book on Thursday. We recommend finding a special spot at our house to keep their book until time to return it to school. When a library book returns to school in their backpack we will assume you are ready to return it. We will remove it from their backpack and place in our library book box until Thursday.

Fall enrichment classes have started. If your child is attending one of these classes (Creative Movement, Basketball, Pedal Pals and /or Cheer, please make sure to send them with the proper clothings. Boys can bring a different shirt to wear with their uniform bottoms. Girls should have shorts on under their dress and can wear a shirt underneath or have one in their bag. Their uniform is always acceptable to wear too. Creative Movement has its own clothes requirement. We will not be putting tights on the girls (they can keep their uniform socks on instead).

Remember your child's teacher is your first contact person if you have a question/concern. We are here to enhance your child's learning forming a wonderful partnership in learning. We are looking forward to a fantastic year!

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Next week some of the math skills we will be working on are:

1.) identifying colors

2.) color sorting

3.) 1:1 correspondence (for example: 1 object to 1 space)

4.) comparisons

These skills we will be reinforced throughout the year.

At home, you can do a color hunt with your child. For example, "I spy something blue/yellow/red!" Talk about how many things they can find. Using common items for learning, it's easy and helps your child gain valuable skills.

Next week some of the language arts skills we will be working on are:

1.) increasing vocabulary

2.) identifying colors

3.) same and different

4.) listening skills

At home, you can look at pictures/objects and talk about what colors are found in it. Read to your child each day to develop a love of reading and a beginning foundation for reading.
