Scottsville's Tuesday Tiger Times
January 20, 2026
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Yesterday we paused for Martin Luther King Jr. Day -- a federal holiday established in 1983 and observed each year on the third Monday in January. It's a time to recommit ourselves to the values of equity, service, and respect for others.
We strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for all -- and Dr. King was a great example for us. We will continue to study notable leaders throughout the school year, as well as elevate our student "Thoughtful Tiger" leaders.

Preparing for Winter Weather
Virginia can be a bit unpredictable when it comes to winter weather. Looking ahead at January and February, we wanted to give some helpful tips in the event of winter weather:
Dress for the weather: Send students in layers, with a warm coat, hat, gloves or mittens, and sturdy shoes or boots on cold or snowy days.
-
Plan for delays and closures: Talk as a family about what to do if school starts late, dismisses early, or is closed due to weather.
-
Check communication channels: Make sure phone numbers and email addresses are current so you receive school updates promptly. ACPS sends updates through Bright Arrow.
-
Allow extra time: Build in extra time for morning routines and travel when roads or sidewalks may be icy.
-
Practice safe travel: Remind students to walk carefully on ice, use handrails, and follow adult directions at bus stops and crossings.
-
Prepare at home: Keep winter supplies on hand, such as flashlights, batteries, and a plan in case of power outages. Ensure you have plenty of water and food in the event you are snowed in for a while.
We are collecting hats and gloves
With the possibility of snow and extremely low temps this weekend, Ms. Renee and Mr. Gamble are collect stocking caps and gloves for kids who are saying they don't have these items at home.
If you have any gently used caps or gloves, please bring them to school this week and we will see that they are given to the students who need them.
THIS IS THE LAST WEEK TO NOMINATE!
