Board Recap for August 26, 2025
Regular Meeting of Board of Trustees
Superintendent Announcements
We are two weeks into the new school year, and our campuses are BUSY.
I’ve had the opportunity to visit each one and see our staff hard at work. I am so proud to be a part of this team because I can see how dedicated our employees are to our students. Everything we do is about them.
As you may have heard in the news, we recently received our ratings from the Texas Education Agency. Some of the news was disappointing, but there is still news worth celebrating. We had six campuses receive an ‘A’ or a ‘B’ rating, including several with distinctions. Congratulations to Ball Early Childhood Center, Jefferson Elementary, Koennecke Elementary, McQueeney Elementary, Patlan Elementary, and Mercer-Blumberg Learning Center.
For our campuses that I did not name, we know we have work to do, and our staff is committed to improvement. I hope our families will join us as we look forward to a fresh start with this new school year and the partnership that can help our schools and students be successful.
Our district has received several donations over the past few weeks, including snacks for our teachers and school supplies for our students. I had the privilege of joining several board members to hand out the “Box of Dreams” school supply kits at Jefferson and McQueeney this month. It was a great way to start the day by meeting our students and seeing their smiles as they received their supplies. Thank you to TEXAS YES for those kits, as well as the community members and businesses who continue to support our students and staff.
A very special thank you to the Seguin Art League, whose gallery will host rotating displays featuring our visual arts students this year. Kelly Hallmark, our art teacher at AJB, will curate our students’ first display. It will debut next month.
Auditions started today for Seguin High School’s fall production of “Aladdin Jr.” - I can’t wait to see that show! The fall season has already started for several of our sports teams, including cross-country, tennis, and volleyball. The Lady Matadors will host the Matador Volleyball Classic beginning this Thursday, the same day our freshman and JV football teams will take on Alamo Heights—best of luck to all of our high school and middle school athletes, who have scrimmages next week.
The first varsity football game of the season is just a few days away; I hope you’ll join us in making the trip to Alamo Heights to cheer on the Matadors. If you can’t make it, you can watch the game live, thanks to our new partnership with Texas Sports Productions. All varsity football games this season will be broadcast on https://gotsp.live/.
This week’s game is also the Peanut Butter Bowl, so please be sure to bring your peanut butter donations to your school’s front office or the Seguin ISD athletic office this week. You can also donate at PeanutButterBowl.com. All donations will go to our local Christian Cupboard.
Keep in mind - this is a contest for our schools as well! The winning elementary and middle school will also get an autographed football helmet to put on display. Last year, our district donated over 4,000 jars of peanut butter. I look forward to seeing if we can beat that number this year."
