“Never doubt that one person can make a difference.” — Ingrid Newkirk
Sometimes what we don't do says as much about us as what we actually do.
Ownership means less and less. Access replaces ownership.
Just because a thought enters your mind doesn't make it true.
Learn from the past but don't get stuck there.
Success is often an antecedent to failure.
Always make your future bigger than your past.
- There are precious few identities that truly reflect who we are and volumes more that reflect what we are.
- Maintain an attitude of gratitude.
Message from Athletic Director, Mike Nolan
Greetings Sports Fans!
The fall season is moving quickly toward the finish line, and our Guardian programs continue to compete, celebrate our seniors, and position themselves for postseason opportunities. From the trails to the pitch, the volleyball court, and the football field, there is plenty to celebrate—and another huge week ahead for IBW Athletics!
Our Cross Country Program continues to build momentum as Districts approach.
At Merriweather, our Women’s Varsity finished 3rd, while both the JV Men and JV Women earned 3rd-place finishes. At the Stumptown Classic, our Varsity Men finished 6th against strong competition.
The work continues as our runners prepare to make their run at the PIL District Championships. Good luck to our Guardians as they enter the most important stretch of the season!
Men’s Soccer put together another impressive week, earning victories over Roosevelt and Benson.
Now, all eyes turn to Tuesday night for a pivotal matchup against our rivals from Lincoln.
Adding to the excitement, Tuesday will also be Senior Night for our Men’s Soccer Program. We hope the Guardian community comes out in force to recognize our seniors and create an incredible atmosphere for one of the biggest matches of the season.
Wells vs. Lincoln. Senior Night. Battle of the Birds. Let’s pack the stands!
What a night for Guardian Women’s Soccer!
The Guardians earned an impressive victory over Roosevelt, highlighted by a HAT TRICK from Kai Hurd! Following the match, we had an amazing opportunity to celebrate our seniors and recognize everything they have contributed to the Women’s Soccer Program. Thank you to our seniors and their families for the commitment, leadership, memories, and Guardian pride they have brought to IBW Soccer.
What a weekend for Guardian Volleyball!
IBW hosted tournament action on Saturday and swept the competition, putting together an outstanding day of volleyball.
Now comes one final opportunity to see this group at home. The Guardians welcome McDaniel on Tuesday night for their final home match and final match of the season.
Come out, get loud, and help us send this team out with a great Guardian atmosphere! 💚🤍
Friday night brings a BIG PIL FOOTBALL MATCHUP as the Guardians head to Grant Bowl.
As we enter the final stretch of the football season, every opportunity gets bigger. We need our Guardian students, families, alumni, and community to show up and bring the energy Friday night.
Friday Night. Grant Bowl. Guardian Football.
This time of year is what high school athletics is all about—rivalry games, Senior Nights, postseason races, final home contests, and opportunities to compete alongside your teammates.
Thank you to our coaches, families, staff, and community for continuing to show up for our student-athletes. Great to Be A Guardian!!
Be Gracious. Be Energetic. Be Helpful. Be Courageous. Be Encouraging.

Athletes of the Week
Cheer: Mia Holguin, Sophomore
This week, we are recognizing Mia as our Athlete of the Week! Since the beginning of the season, Mia has shown tremendous growth as a cheerleader Through consistent effort, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to improving, she has made significant strides in her skills and overall performance. Her progress is a reflection of the hard work she puts in at practice and her determination to become the best athlete and teammate she can be. One of the most rewarding parts of coaching is watching an athlete recognize their potential and put in the work to reach it, and Miss Mia has done exactly that!
Cross Country - Men: George Lora, Junior
George recorded another victory again on Friday at the Stumptown Showdown. He ran an impressive all-time Wells best time of 14:31 for 5k, that's 4:41 mile pace for over 3 miles. He currently has the 2nd fastest time in the state. In addition to his elite performances he has really developed as a leader and ambassador. He is highly respected by his teammates and leads them with courage and compassion. He has also become an ambassador for Wells and his sport. You can always find George conversing with other athletes and coaches at every meet he attends. He is a tremendous competitor and leader.
Cross Country - Women: Millie Grabenhorst, Junior
Millie has launched herself onto the elite list of Oregon runners. She just recently finished 4th overall at the Meriweather Invitational against some of the states best runners. Millie has ascended to take on some of the best athletes in the state. She is currently the 9th fastest athlete ever for Wells cross country. More importantly, Millie is an unbelievable leader. She is kind and giving and thrives when helping others. She is always reaching out to inspire and uplift others. She has also become a favorite of other athletes and coaches. She is often seen connecting with others at her competitions. She is an extremely gifted runner and a special leader.
Soccer - Men: Miles Coats, Sophomore
Miles has played a key role attacking off the wing and had an exceptional goal last week in the 1-0 win against Roosevelt.
Soccer - Women: Isa Llados, Senior
Isa Llados is our AOTW for WSOC. Isa is a consistent leader, very willing to play any position or any role the team needs, great communicator and supporter of her teammates. Senior Captain.
Volleyball: Audrey Prows, Sophomore
Audrey has performed big for us leading the team in aces while adding numerous digs and assists. Her game is becoming more well rounded as well as the leadership. Great work!
