Early Release Day-September 24

This is just a reminder that the district will have an early release day on Wednesday, September 24. Students will start their day at the normal time but will be dismissed from the elementary buildings at noon that day. Dismissal will be the same procedures that we always use, just at noon, instead of 3:20 pm.

All students will eat their lunches in their classrooms on Early Release Day. Lunch will start at 11:25 am and end at 11:50 am. Students will have an opportunity to pack or buy their lunches just like normal. There will be no extras offered on the early release day. If your child wants to buy that day, there will only be one lunch option for the day.

The lunch option for that day will be:

Chips

Cheese

Salsa

Apple slices

Milk

Beat South Shirts

Get ready to show your school spirit and Beat South! The ALHS Pep Club are selling Beat South shirts to support our football team.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Who is selling the shirts? High school teacher, Mrs. Rudkin, is coordinating the sale.
  • How do I order? Fill out the order form and return it to Avon Lake High School with cash or a check for the full amount. Make checks payable to ALHS Pep Club.
  • Where do I turn in the money and forms? All forms and money should be turned in at the Avon Lake High School office with attention to Mrs. Rudkin. All order forms and payment must be delivered to the high school and not sent to any of the elementary schools.
  • When and where can I pick up the shirts? Circle the elementary school you want shirts delivered to and the shirts will be sent home with your child during the week of October 13-16.

Thanks for your support! Let's go Shoremen!

Halloween Parade

We will be having our Halloween Parade on Friday, October 31, around 9:10 a.m. We are going to have the students parade through each classroom prior to heading outside for the parents to see. If you are planning on coming to watch the parade that morning, please line up on the sidewalk near the front bus loop and up to the main entrance. We will still start the parade by exiting out of the 4th grade doors and will walk along the front of the building and make our way to the front doors at the main entrance.

Costumes

While students are not required to wear costumes on October 31st, those students who do wish to participate are reminded of the following guidelines:

1. Please choose a costume that does not reflect violence. Inappropriate “props” such as plastic guns, knives, and weapons of any kind are not allowed – even if they are a part of your child’s costume.

2. Students should wear their costume to school.

3. All costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code.

Food

As a reminder, Avon Lake City School district has approved specific parties throughout the year that allows food in the classroom. All food must be store bought and pre-wrapped. No home baked goods will be allowed in the class. We also encourage take home treats instead of a food based item: pencils, erasers, stickers etc. If your child has a food allergy, please work with your homeroom parent/teacher to discuss the food options and discuss with your child what they are able to consume.

Message from the PTA

We’d like to inform you of some exciting updates regarding this year’s Halloween Hoopla. Due to scheduling conflicts with home football games and other athletic events, the Halloween Hoopla will take place during school hours at recess. Students can still look forward to popular traditions such as the trick-or-treat trail and pumpkin decorating contest. Here is the link to if you would like to participate in the trick-or-treating trail or bags of candy for the tables to pass out. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at schingsb@gmail.com.
