Message from Ms. Athanson

Madeira Beach families,

We wrapped up a busy week here at the Beach. Thank you to all of the grandparents and families that came this past week. Our students were excited to have you join them for lunch.

Red Ribbon Week is coming up. The focus of this week is to "Say No to Drugs" and our leadership club has arranged for an amazing Spirit Week. Please review the flyer for specifics or review below:

Monday - Wear Red

Tuesday - Wear Camo

Wednesday -bright colors or sunglasses

Thursday - Sports gear / or twin

Friday - Pajamas

Huge shout out to our PTSA for an AMAZING fall festival!!! Thank you to all of the parent volunteers and our plant operations staff. I am told this was the highest attendance at this event. The trunk or treats were so unique, and the petting zoo was a big hit. As you know, this fundraiser helps support many events throughout the year for our school and students.

Monday is the final opportunity for meeting credit this month. We have community partner night and have 6 vendors for you to choose from with one of the vendors can be accessed during the day (Dunkin Donuts). A reminder, the expectation is to support the local business.

Congratulations to our Cross-Country Team. Our Boys came in 1st place and Girls a respectable 2nd. What an outstanding team and season.

Parents we need your help. We are actively seeking parents to serve on our IAC committee. These meetings are comprised of teachers, administration and parents with a focus on addressing students who have violated fundamental policy. Our meetings on the middle school side take place in the morning prior to school starting. Serving on this committee does count as meeting credit. If interested, please reach out to Deb Ivy, ivyd@pcsb.org

This month our Commitment to Character word is Tolerance. We will have a breakfast celebration on 10/31 to recognize those students who received an invitation. Parents, please carpool as parking is limited.

A few reminders, picture retakes are on November 4th. If your student was absent and needs an order form, please reach out to the middle school office for assistance.

A few requests have come in to post the Kona Ice QR code for an extended time. Our next event date is 11/19 but you may pre-order now. This is open to grade K-8 & is a fundraiser for the school that supports our PBIS program.

We are now on social media!!! Please follow madbeachfundamental on instagram & Madeira Beach Fundamental K-8 on facebook. Administration will be sharing information & content about our school.

Parents a few quick reminders: We are seeing an influx of parents dropping of a multitude of items their students forgot at home. This is not permitted unless it is a lunch or medicine. Also, as you are aware, our carline backs up very quickly and it is difficult for parents trying to pick up students early. Our carlines are very efficient at this time of year and there is no need to arrive early to get in line. Please respect that many individuals need to get in and out of our school and do not arrive more than 30 minutes prior to dismissal. Lastly, any electronic confiscated at this point in the year will automatically be parent pick up. Our students are well aware of this policy.

We are looking for business partners. If you would like to showcase your business and have a banner hung on the interior fencing of our carline, please complete the attached form and submit it to Suzanne Lake at lakes@pcsb.org.

If you have a student that is absent, please use the absence reporting system on our website or email: littlefields@pcsb.org for elementary, gerickes@pcsb.org for middle school. You may also call the office to report the absence. Please make sure to send in a note with your student once they return.

Lastly, I want to thank our families for the many generous donations to our classrooms. We are grateful for your kindness and support.

Cell phone policy

“Phones are to remain away all day!”

Phones that are out in any school setting can be confiscated and provided to the front office where a parent will have to pick it up. Phones that are confiscated will not be handed back to students at the end of the day. Students may use phones in the morning as they wait to enter the building, but once they enter for breakfast, the phones are put away. Students are also permitted to use phones after school ends as they wait for buses and parent pick up. Repeated offenses will result in a detention.

Florida House Bill 1105 is now in effect, and our district has updated the Code of Student Conduct accordingly. Middle school students are not permitted to use or have visible any cell phone or wireless device during the school day (bell to bell).

Carline Etiquette

To expedite our car line on arrival please have your child ready to exit once you have approached the designated area. This includes having their backpack, lunch box and any other items with them and not in the trunk of your vehicle. Please remember to pull all the way up to the crosswalk and follow the signs that designate where it is appropriate to allow students to safely exit your vehicle.

For dismissal, please make sure you have your student’s name and grade level on your car tag. Our last request is to carpool as much as possible to help speed up the dismissal process. Please remind your student to listen for their name and to exit the cafeteria upon hearing it.

If you have an elementary & middle schooler, please use the elementary line for drop off unless you are dropping off for breakfast. Lastly, please do not use the businesses across the street for your students to walk to.
