2. From the Jed Foundation and Texas Health Human Services:

Dear Colleague,

We are excited to share a new, free campus film screening opportunity through the documentary Each and Every Day, from MTV and filmmakers Sheila Nevins and Alexandra Shiva, created in partnership with The Jed Foundation.

Each and Every Day is a documentary exploration of youth mental health through the eyes of young people who have attempted suicide or have struggled with suicidal thoughts. The nine people featured range in age from late-teens to early-thirties and come from diverse backgrounds. They share not only their challenges, but also their recoveries and hard-won wisdom about what made their life worth living. In addition to telling their personal stories, all the participants meet virtually, creating an online community to discuss mental health challenges.

Each and Every Day is a film that is best experienced communally and contains honest conversations between young people about suicide and thoughts of self harm. For some viewers, this may cause uncomfortable feelings at times. It is important to remember that you can pause viewing as needed. We invite you to learn more about hosting a screening for your campus community using the link below, where you can receive access to stream the film, as well as to access a screening toolkit with helpful tips on how to screen the film at your school.

Yours in health,

The JED Team

Screen Each and Every Day on Your Campus

If you or someone you know needs help immediately, text "START" to 741-741, call 1-800-273-TALK (8255), dial 911, or go to the nearest emergency room. Find more information and resources at jedfoundation.org.

*The appropriate audience is high school students and older. I would encourage watching it first as a team or maybe even w/ middle and high school counselors in your region.

2. Introduction to School Safety and Security Audits Course

Texas Education Code 37.108 requires that school districts, open-enrollment charter schools, and junior college districts conduct safety and security audits of their facilities at least once every three years. This self-paced, on-demand course found in the TxSSC School Safety Learning Portal will introduce participants to the audit process.

Through a series of videos, participants will learn how to assemble and train an interdisciplinary audit team, implement the steps in the safety and security audit process, and report results to the district’s board of trustees and the TxSSC. Safety and security audits provide comprehensive assessments to identify areas in need of improvement and to update the district's multi-hazard emergency operations plan and are a critical component of developing and maintaining safety and security in schools.
