Hello Pioneers,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. We are officially in the final stretch of the school year with just two weeks to go!

As we celebrate the growth our school has shown this year, our goal is to finish on a high note. This is especially true for our eighth-graders preparing for high school, as well as our returning sixth and seventh-graders. We remain committed to the high standards we’ve established together, and we will continue to hold our Pioneer Scholars to those lofty expectations through the final bell.

SOL Retake Schedule This week, we will administer make-up SOL exams. We have seen growth in every subject area so far, and we want to keep that momentum going! If your student is eligible for a retake, please encourage them to give their absolute best effort.

The schedule and participation numbers for this week are as follows:

  • Monday, June 1: Civics SOL (8th Grade ONLY) – 40 students

  • Tuesday, June 2: Reading SOL (All Grades) – 114 students

  • Thursday, June 4: Science SOL (8th Grade ONLY) – 51 students

  • Friday, June 5: Math SOL (All Grades) – 152 students

How You Can Help? To ensure our scholars are positioned for success, we ask that you help them:

  1. Rest: Ensure they get a full night’s sleep.

  2. Fuel: Provide a nutritious breakfast at home, or ensure they arrive at school in time to eat here.

  3. Prepare: Check that Chromebooks are fully charged and ready for testing.

Our students and teachers have dedicated themselves to excellence this year. We are excited to see their hard work culminate in success over these next two weeks.

Safety Reminder: Helmets & E-Bikes As the weather warms up, our crossing guards have noticed more students riding bikes and e-scooters without helmets. Safety is our top priority. I have attached a flyer from the Sheriff’s Department regarding bike laws and safety. Please review this with your students to ensure they are protected on their way to and from school.

Thank you for your continued support of the Sterling Community!

Student Pick-up / Drop-off Procedures:

Thanks to the overwhelming number of parents who continue to follow our kiss-n-ride procedures. Please know that our intention is to make the process as efficient as possible. To continue to improve the process, please adhere to the following:

  • Please follow the directions of the adults who are helping wih the flow of traffic. We will utilize a portable stop sign to help with traffic; please pull all the way to the stop sign.
  • Students SHOULD NOT walk between traffic to get to their cars or to the building. This is a dangerous practice and goes against school practice and procedures.
  • As communicated earlier, the entrance to the Sterling Golf Club is NOT an authorize area for students to be picked up or dropped off. This is private property and the proprietors have requested that our parents and guardians no longer use their property.

Update to Student Personal Device Use on LCPS Property:

Please be aware that on Tuesday, December 16, the LCPS School Board approved an updated Policy 8655 - Student Personal Device Use. Especially for parents, guardians, family members, and students, STM will be enforcing this policy with fidelity. Below, I have shared a link with additional information from Dr. Spence, LCPS' Superintendent.

https://www.lcps.org/article/2603824

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

School begins promptly at 8:50. All students (busers, walkers and car riders) will be dismissed at 3:40 PM. Students who are leaving for early dismissal should be picked up by 3:15 PM

As always, please share any additional questions, comments, and/or concerns.

Chronic Absenteeism by Grade Chronic Absenteeism by Grade

10% or more, absent from total days of school

🚩 Current overall rate – 14% 🚩

  • Sixth-grade rate – 14.2% 🟢
  • Seventh-grade rate – 12.7% 🟢
  • Eighth-grade rate – 15.1.% 🟡

Tiers:

  1. 🟢 10% to 14%
  2. 🟡 15% to 24%
  3. 🔴 25%+

We need your help with keeping our chronic absenteeism rate low. Students need to be present in school to learn. We want all of our students to be successful and this starts with them being at school each day. Our goal is for all grade levels to be in the green (tier 1). Please make sure that you talk to your child about the importance of being at school every day.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

If your child has medication and/or medical supplies remaining in the health office, the medications need to be picked up by a parent/guardian. Emergency medications should remain in the office through the last day of school.

Please pick up medication/supplies on one of the following days:

June 11th from 8:30am to 3:00pm

June 12th from 8:30am to 3:00pm

June 15th from 9:00am to 2:00pm

· Per the Virginia Department of Education, medication CANNOT be stored over the summer.

· Medication WILL BE DISCARDED if not collected by the end of day on Monday, June 15th.

Loudoun County Public Schools requires a new provider/physician orders each school year for the medication or specialized care which your child receives at school. If your child will continue to need medication or specialized health care at school, you and your child’s licensed healthcare provider must complete and sign the proper form(s). Please note that parents may not amend the provider’s order for managing the child’s medical condition.

The required forms are available in the health office at your child’s school or online at www.lcps.org/medicalforms. The forms should be returned the week before school starts to the Loudoun County Public School that your child will be attending, along with the appropriate medication, in the original, pharmacy labelled container. Please refer to the “Medication at School Guidelines” for further information regarding medication at school.

Important update in regard to course selection changes for the rising 9th graders - Park View

-Students have until June 12th to make elective or level changes (please connect with your counselor for changes))

  • Students will not be allowed to make any changes at the beginning of the school year (only case-by-case for level changes after Q1 ends) but no elective changes (per. Park View admin)

Planning Ahead: High School Course Expungement

Did you know that middle schoolers taking high school credit courses (like Algebra, Geometry, or World Languages) have a unique opportunity to "reset" their high school transcript? If your student didn't get the grade they hoped for, you can choose to expunge the course, meaning the grade and credit are completely removed from their high school records and GPA.

Quick Tips for Families:

  • Automatic Reset: If a student receives an "F," the course is automatically expunged by the counselor—no paperwork needed!

  • Check the Sequence: Since math and languages follow a specific order, expunging a prerequisite usually means the student will need to retake the course to move forward.

  • GPA Boost: Consider expunging grades lower than a B- to keep that future high school GPA strong.

  • Irreversible: Take a moment to chat with your student—once a grade is expunged, it cannot be added back later.

Important Deadlines

To expunge a course from this past year, please complete the Permission Click form by the end of the first quarter of the 2026-2027 school year.

  • Current 6th & 7th Graders: Submit via: https://permission.click/gN0KP/int/Qaa2/signee-info

  • Current 8th Graders: Submit via: https://permission.click/l8y06/int/llP/signee-info

If you have any questions about what is best for your student’s academic journey, please reach out to our school counseling department. We are here to help!
