Irma Oliva - Secondary Teacher of the Month

We had a great turnout at the first Facilities Planning Committee meeting on Tuesday. The meeting was held at Edison Elementary and ended with a tour of the campus.

Committee members learned more about the district facilities and worked in small groups to brainstorm what they feel are the needs of the district.

We are excited to continue working with this group of community stakeholders, which includes city officials, local business owners, GISD parents, and GISD staff members.

Roald Dahl Day at Gainesville Intermediate

Ms. Bond provided students with some fun activities to help honor this writer. Students were introduced to Roald Dahl's contributions to literacy through a brief video. Then, students were released to create a candy bar, guess how many chocolate kisses were in a container, pick a Roald Dahl book from the display to read, or work on puzzles featuring Matilda and chocolate. It was a sweet time in the GIS Library.

Pre-K SIPPS!

This year we started something new with our Pre-K students. We identified our first group of students to start our SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words) program earlier in the year than usual. While normally pre-K starts in the second semester, these students were ready to start at the same time as our kinders. We are calling this Pre-K-Acceleration to help them enter Kinder next year well prepared. We will be adding more students into this group in a couple weeks. If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that our pre-K teachers and students are top notch!
