Principal's Message Principal's Message

Dear Webster Community,

Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope your time away was cup-filling and brought you both rest and joy. Whether you traveled, explored locally, or simply relaxed, we’re so glad to have everyone back. We missed you!

We didn’t waste a moment jumping right back into the swing of things. It was wonderful to see our students’ smiling faces all over campus this week. Students returned energized and settled quickly into the rhythm of school. We’re officially in the home stretch!

A huge thank you to all of our 4th grade families who submitted AstroCamp forms and payments. We’re so close to having everything in—please be sure to turn in any outstanding forms so your child is cleared to participate in this unforgettable experience.

We also kicked off our Kids Heart Challenge this week with a high-energy assembly. Students learned about heart health, CPR, and Finn’s Mission, and I can’t wait to see how many of them complete the challenge! Let’s keep those hearts happy and strong 💗

One of the most entertaining moments of the week? Our Lost and Found Fashion Show! Staff members took to the "catwalk" to showcase the many sweatshirts, water bottles, and lunch boxes that are still waiting to be reunited with their owners. While quite a few items found their way home, our Lost and Found is still overflowing. Next time you’re on campus, please take a peek—there’s a good chance your child’s missing gear is in there!

WEBSTER WEAR 🐳

Room 10 takes back the crown! Congratulations to Ms. Berman’s class for reclaiming the Webster Wear title this week 🐳💙

🫀 Kids Heart Challenge Kicked Off at Webster! 🫀 Kids Heart Challenge Kicked Off at Webster!

American Heart Association | Kids Heart Challenge | Parent Push and Play

We’re excited to launch this year’s Kids Heart Challenge in partnership with the American Heart Association! This fun and meaningful event encourages students to take care of their hearts, support lifesaving research, and build healthy habits—all while raising funds to fight heart disease and stroke.

This morning, students attended an inspiring assembly where they met the Lifesavers League—a team of heart heroes like Victor, Rescue, and Zee—each representing an important health habit. They also learned about Finn, a courageous child who’s had 18 heart surgeries before 3rd grade, and the life-saving power of Hands-Only CPR.

✅ 3 Things to Do Today:

  1. Register at: http://www2.heart.org/goto/WebsterElementarySchool
  2. Send 5 texts/emails to friends and family for support
  3. Start Finn’s Mission to learn CPR and the signs of a stroke

🎉 Incentives & Celebrations:

  • 50 students registered = Everyone earns 5 extra minutes of recess!
  • 100% class registration = Pajama Day (Zee-themed!)
  • Complete Finn’s Mission = Homework Pass!

Let’s make healthy hearts a school-wide mission. Thank you for being a Heart Hero, and don’t forget to check out the Kids Heart Challenge kickoff video with your student!

You are warmly invited to join us for a very special moment in our Webster community as we celebrate the revitalization of our Butterfly Garden.

📅 Tuesday, April 21, 2026
⏰ Groundbreaking Ceremony: 8:00 AM

🌿 Community Planting: 8:35 AM – 11:00 AM

Nearly one year after the Franklin Fire impacted this area at Webster, our 4th and 5th grade students will lead the restoration of our butterfly garden—an important symbol of hope, resilience, and renewal for our community.

With the support of the Santa Monica Mountains Fund Climate Action Corps fellows—Aubrey Pevsner, Talisa Andrade, and Taylor Morales—this space will be transformed with native Malibu plants from the coastal sage scrub community. Throughout the school year, Andrade and Pevsner have partnered with Miss Justine to bring this learning to life, engaging students from preschool through 5th grade in hands-on exploration of native plants, pollinators, and sustainable practices.

This meaningful event will include a brief program featuring a land acknowledgment and expressions of gratitude to the many individuals and partners who have supported this project. Pollinators like butterflies, bees, and birds play a critical role in our ecosystem, and planting native species helps support their survival and strengthens our local environment.

Media Release Form (4th & 5th Grade Students ONLY)

To allow your child to fully participate, all 4th and 5th grade students must have a completed media release form on file. This form grants permission for your child to be photographed or recorded during the event as part of documenting and sharing the experience. Forms have already been sent home with students and you can also preview the form HERE. Please return it as soon as possible.

Webster’s 5th grade class is dreaming big — and hoping to leave behind a legacy gift like no other: a brand-new playground! With support from SMMUSD, 5th grade families (led by Lauren Franks Ifft) have spent months working with designers and contractors to propose an inspiring, modern play structure to replace our aging 20-year-old equipment.

🛝 Why It Matters
The new design prioritizes safety, accessibility, and active play, giving our students a space that supports physical development, creativity, and social connection.

💰 Funding Goals
We’re now actively seeking grants and sponsorships to raise:

  • $157,000 for the equipment purchase
  • $300,000 for installation, surfacing, and prep

Webster PTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so all donations are tax-deductible.

🌟 Sponsorship Opportunities
From naming rights to donor wall recognition, we’re offering exciting benefits for supporters at every level. See slides below for details on Title Sponsorship, Feature Sponsors, and Community Champions.

To enhance student safety, all K–5 students will enter and exit through one main gate — located by the main office. This will help us maintain a secure and supervised environment for all students.

As part of our commitment to safety and being good neighbors, we kindly ask that you:

  • Use the designated pick-up and drop-off lane each day.

  • Avoid using the Our Lady of Malibu (OLM) parking lots.

  • Park only in the Webster lot.

  • Keep Pre-K/TK green curb drop-offs quick to ensure smooth turnover — this area is reserved for families using the Pre-K/TK gate. If your student enters through the main gate (K–5), please use the lower lot or main valet line.

Thank you for helping us ensure smooth arrivals and dismissals each day. Creating a safe and positive learning environment is our top priority — and it starts with all of us working together. We truly appreciate your support!
