🩰 Holiday Magic in the LRC: The Nutcracker 🩰 Holiday Magic in the LRC: The Nutcracker

This week, the LRC is transforming into a land of sweets and snow! We are celebrating the season by immersing students in the classic tale of The Nutcracker.

During their library time, students are enjoying a multimedia experience. We are reading "The Story Orchestra: The Nutcracker," a beautiful interactive book that allows children to press buttons and hear clips of Tchaikovsky’s famous score right on the page.

To bring the story to life, we are also showing the ballet danced by the world-renowned BBC Royal Ballet on Thursday and Friday. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience the intersection of literacy, classical music, and dance!

As we observe National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day this December, the LRC is highlighting a special collection of non-fiction narratives, biographies, and historical accounts dedicated to "the date which will live in infamy."

We invite students to explore these resources to gain a deeper understanding of the events of December 7, 1941. By reading the stories of veterans and understanding the global context of the time, our students can honor the past while learning the importance of resilience and history.

πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ Elf Hunt Update: Mission Almost Accomplished! A huge congratulations to all our student detectives! The December Elf Hunt was a massive success, with 26 elves brought back to the LRC. Please point out the sight word story outside the LRC for students to enjoy as they walk in and out of the library.

However, we have a situation! While most of the elves have been accounted for, one elusive elf is still on the loose. This final trickster is a master of disguise and is still hiding somewhere in the school. Let students know and hopefully someone can find the last one before winter break begins!

Keep your eyes peeled!

We are excited to highlight a special section in the back of the library where the arts come alive! Just look for the music notes and colorful paintbrush on the wall to find our dedicated Art & Music section.

This collection is unique because it was curated by experts. Our school's Music and Art teachers worked alongside our librarians to choose books that complement what students are learning in class.

Whether your student wants to learn about the history of jazz or how to paint with watercolors, they can find a teacher-recommended book right here on the shelf.

dropped chromebook

As we continue using our school-issued devices, we’ve recently observed an increase in unusual wear and tear on our student chromebooks, leading to higher repair costs and downtime. We would appreciate your support in reinforcing these critical care reminders with your students:

Key Areas of Concern

  • Careful Handling: We've seen an uptick in damage from how devices are handled. Please remind students to be extra careful when carrying and moving their chromebooks around the classroom and building. Two hands are always best!

  • Physical Damage: We are seeing instances of keys being taken off the keyboard and the fascia (bezel) coming apart from the screen. This is often due to picking at the device or dropping it.

Please take a moment to review basic care expectations with your class. Consistent reminders about keeping food and drinks away from devices and placing them gently into storage will help ensure these learning tools last for the rest of the year.

Thank you for helping us maintain our technology resources!

Tech Tidbits and Information

Chromebook Troubleshooting Tips

Here's a how-to slideshow with some basic troubleshooting tips for chromebooks. It includes information on how to fix a sideways screen, clearing your cache and turning off accessibility mode.

Vivi Updates - Extended Screen

For those who wanted to extend their desktops instead of mirror your screen you now can! Using the desktop vivi app you can set up multiple screens. Here's a quick how-to from microsoft or please reach out to Kristine to help!

YouTube Update

Elementary students cannot access YouTube as of June 2025. While this has its good points it may create a wrinkle in your teaching if you want students to utilize secondary video sources. But fear not! there is a workaround.

If you want to continue to use YouTube videos and have students access them you can embed them in google slides. If you have any questions about how to embed videos in your slides please reach out to Kristine. :)

Daily Sub Tech Capabilities

New this year, daily subs will use a chromebook issued from the LRC. These devices can connect to Vivi using classlink, however, daily subs do not have the ability to print.

They also do not have access to many Classlink and instructional apps. Please keep this in mind when you are planning an absence.

Below is a snapshot of what you're daily substitute will see in classlink.
