OLHMS Update (4/29/25)
Welcome 5th Graders!
Tuesday's Top of the Mind
Did you know our 5th-grade transitions are well underway?
The 5th-grade transitions began back in February with our wonderful performance of Frozen Jr. and took us to last week's Service Day Kahoot games with each 5th-grade classroom. I have had the great pleasure of visiting each 5th-grade classroom at the elementary schools and could not be more excited to welcome each soon-to-be scholar to OLHMS this week! 5th-grade families please mark your calendars for May 8th as we will host in partnership with the OLHMS PTSA our 5th Grade Open Gym and Parent Night.
Did you know that our scholars completed over 5,400 hours of service this past Friday?
We are so proud of our scholars and entire school community for embracing our mission and vision and strategic goals! We supported and positively impacted our world and D123 schools through various activities consuming our day. This amazing day provided each scholar with the chance to contribute, support our community, and acquire crucial life skills and insights. Thank you to Mrs. Omiecinski for her thoughtful and masterful coordination, each of our scholars, staff here at OLHMS and across the district along with multiple parents and community members. This was truly a special day in D123!
Did you know our scholars are piloting a drone program?
Check out this article to learn more about a pilot program our 8th-grade scholars are navigating thanks to an amazing donation from a community member, Dr. Gasteyer and our D123 Ed. Foundation!
Reminders and Updates
Dear Mustang Families,
As we head into the final stretch of a successful 2024–2025 school year, there’s an exciting energy in the building and we appreciate welcoming each of the 5th-graders attending our tours and visits!
We wrapped up last week with a meaningful day of learning and connection—our annual Service Day was a tremendous success! It was a powerful opportunity for our students to give back and show Mustang pride through hands-on projects that support both our school and the broader community.
This week, we enthusiastically welcomed two groups of 5th graders from our elementary schools. Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting all 5th-grade classrooms to continue their transition to OLHMS. These visits help build excitement and ease the move to middle school, and we can’t wait for these future Mustangs to experience the supportive, spirited environment that makes our school so special.
To our 5th-grade families: You’re invited to experience OLHMS for yourselves on May 8th from 6:00–7:30 PM at our 2025 PTSA Open Gym and Parent Night. It’s a night full of Mustang pride and anticipation, and we look forward to welcoming you.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership—it truly makes all the difference. Let’s keep the momentum going and finish the year strong!
Due May 30th!

Graduation Fees: The deadline for online payments has passed. Bring cash payments into the main office.

SELECT 123: The application deadline has now passed for this year's prestigious alumni group. Congratulations to 70 applicants! This year's class will be announced in May!
We do expect and desire to have 100% of our scholars earn the opportunity to walk the stage with their graduating 2025 Class. We have been and will continue to communicate with families if any scholar is in jeopardy of this opportunity.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Mustang families we need your support!
We need all families dropping off or picking up our scholars to be more responsible, respectful and safe. Recently, we have seen too many cars driving too fast during drop off and pick up. We have also seen cars passing and driving around other cars way too close to students- please be patient, cautious and courteous. Remember was are all modeling our Mustang Musts! The same can be said while buses are loading and unloading. Please pull all the way up in the circle drive before dropping off. This will help the traffic flow.
As a reminder, families should not be using the main entrance parking lot to drop off or pick up between 8:15-8:45 am and 3:15-3:45 pm while the buses are present.
Student Lunch Deliveries
We want to remind families that OLHMS does not allow student lunch deliveries from outside services (such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, or other vendors). This practice minimizes disruptions and contributes to a safe and structured lunch experience for all students.
Bus Transportation
Bus Behavior: Please remind bus riders that we must be following our Mustang Musts. We have been hearing about challenging, inappropriate and unsafe behavior on the bus riders to and from school. We do have the ability to request bus video footage. Students will be given consequences for their behavior which may include a suspension from the bus.
Bus Loading and Unloading: Families should not be passing buses in our parking lot. This is dangerous and almost caused an accident. Do not pass buses with their stop sign extended.
