A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families,
We are SO thankful to our Rye police and firefighters, as well as our students and staff for conducting an evacuation drill that validated our protocols and taught us how we might refine our practice. As one student said in a recent writing assignment, "To School: I love school because school is my home and it is my SAFETY and it is how I learn." This is why we do what we do and why we practice drills so frequently so they become more instinctual. We want our children to see RES as a safe place and we are proud of our efforts to do the best we can to make this a reality for our school family.
Thanks for your support,
Michelle Pitts, Principal
VETERANS...PLEASE JOIN US!
This year we REALLY want to build excitement and increase attendance by VETERANS at our Veteran's Day Assembly. We are going to be hosting a reception following the assembly for veterans only and want to increase attendance each year so our community and family veterans can get to know one another year after year. Please see the invitation below and invite a veteran, either from your family our our Rye community, to join us!
HEALTH/WORLD LANGUAGE UPDATE
In World Language Health class with Mrs. Warden and Señora Piper, students in grades 2–4 are currently learning about bullying: what it is, how it affects others, and how to respond safely and respectfully. Through books, real-life scenarios, and class discussions, students are exploring ways to recognize bullying behavior, stand up for themselves and others, and create inclusive, kind social environments. These lessons are helping students build empathy, strengthen communication skills, and gain confidence in navigating challenging social situations.
Students in grades K - 2 may notice a hand out or a packet coming home with your child this week. These are resources provided by the USDA and MyPlate.gov, which are two resources that we use for health classes at RES. All of these grade levels have been learning about and reviewing the 5 food groups, and why it is important to eat from all 5 food groups and eat a balanced diet. These resources are meant to be resources to connect home and school. Please reach out if you have any questions or have an area of expertise that you would like to share with our students as a guest speaker.
SAEBRS
Hello RES Families,
Lori Arsenault here. I am your child's School Counselor and I am the cheerleader for our District's implementation of SAEBRS. This emotional and behavioral screener is offering our classroom teachers and related service providers a data point to inform and support the strategies and interventions we can use to support our students' SEL needs.
Teachers in Grades K-2 completed the SAEBRS report for each of their students. This is a standardized questionnaire that allows the teacher to reflect on each of their student's social, academic and emotional behaviors. Your child's teacher has the results from this screener available if you would like to see them at conferences.
Our 3rd and 4th grade students completed the screener on their own during the last two weeks. Results from this screener were available for teacher review during our Data Day last week, and the students' responses were considered when determining whether there are interventions needed at this time to support your child. If this is the case, you will have already heard from us!
This screener is regarded as a single data point from one day in your child's educational journey this year. However, I am very excited that we have begun using this screener. This data will be a helpful guide while we consider how best to support the overall needs of our students, academically AND socially and emotionally.
As ALWAYS, I am here to chat if you have questions or concerns. Your child's SAEBRS report is available if you would like to see it. Teachers in Grades 3 and 4 will have this data available during conferences in November, or you can email me and your child's teacher if you would like to request the report ahead of time.
Thank you for your continued support and trust.
Warmly,
Lori :)
Vision Screening
On November 4, a free vision screening will be offered to your child by the members of the Rye Lions Club using the Spot Vision Screener.
In PowerSchool, we have asked families to opt in to all screeners. However, we are asking if you would like to specifically opt OUT of this vision screening, email Lori Flint at lflint@sau50.org by October 30.
LUNCH IN THE CAF
IF YOU ARE COMING IN, PLEASE READ BELOW...
We invite one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) as we really do get quite tight at certain lunches. This is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend. This is an occasional event as we do want children to build independence and social skills in the cafeteria, a perfect time for this!
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria BEFORE we line up all the children.
- Days for family visits are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:15-12:40
Second Grade-12:15-12:40
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
SOCKTOBER: Sponsored by Student Council
PICTURE HIGHLIGHTS: Ocean Discovery Day at UNH
Last Friday, our fourth graders had an exciting and educational adventure at the University of New Hampshire’s Ocean Discovery Day! Students explored the world of marine science through hands-on activities and engaging experiences led by real scientists.
One of the highlights was the squid dissection, where students examined the fascinating anatomy of these ocean creatures up close and learned how their unique adaptations help them survive in the sea. They also enjoyed fish printing, creating colorful artwork while learning about different fish species and their body structures.
Another favorite activity was working with scientists on underwater rovers, where students got a glimpse into how technology is used to explore the ocean’s depths. They learned how these remotely operated vehicles help scientists study marine life and underwater environments that humans can’t easily reach. The children were able to operate small underwater vehicles.
It was a day full of discovery, curiosity, and fun, sparking a deeper appreciation for our oceans and the incredible science behind exploring them! Huge shout-out to Mr. Jay Rushforth for sharing his expertise with the children when they were there!
