A Note from the Principal
Day 107/180
I hope you all enjoyed the extended (wink) vacation and have successfully dug out from our most recent blizzard. I want to send a huge shout out to our custodial staff, who prioritized preparing the school over their own homes to ensure we could reopen safely and smoothly. Their behind the scenes work never goes unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they do to keep our Pirate Ship running.
Today, our JMS students participated in our annual Harassment and Cyberbullying Training with SRO Mahoney and former SRO Marshalsea. This training is an important learning experience for students and, as a parent of two middle schoolers myself, it also serves as a good reminder about the importance of staying connected to and monitoring students’ online and phone activity. Our fifth graders will participate in their own age appropriate version of this training next week.
This next month is often the longest and sometimes dreariest stretch of the school year, so we intentionally pack it with exciting opportunities to keep our momentum strong. Next Friday, we kick off our annual Read-A-Thon, one of our favorite traditions that celebrates reading while bringing our community together. Additional upcoming events include Read-A-Thon wrap up assemblies, Talent Show auditions, the JMS Science Fair, a visit from Playful Engineers, and a special visit from author Josh Funk, just to name a few. Of course, MCAS is also right around the corner. While we take MCAS administration seriously, we also work hard to make it a positive and supportive experience for students. If you are interested in helping, please consider volunteering as part of this year’s MCAS “Game Plan,” focused on creating a fun, encouraging, and comfortable testing environment. Those interested can simply email me at kshaw@hullpublicschools.us.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us create a school community where students feel supported, engaged, and excited to learn.
-Mr. Shaw
