McMillan Monthly
Information for our McMillan Community for November, 2025
From the Principal
Greetings McMillan families:
Second Quarter rolls on for students at McMillan! We are excited to see students engaged in learning and activities. Stay up to date on events by following the McMillan School Calendar and the McMillan Athletics Calendar.
As we move through November, I want to take a moment to thank you for the incredible partnership and support you continue to provide our students and staff. Because of your commitment, McMillan has seen one of the largest increases in student attendance in the district — including a 5 year record for Parent-Teacher Conference attendance. Your efforts to make sure students are at school, ready to learn, are making a real and lasting difference.
We are calling this month “No Miss November” — just 14 school days to show what Monarch Pride looks like! Our goal is to have perfect or near-perfect attendance schoolwide, and if we reach it, we’ll celebrate together with an all-school dance. Every day counts, and every student matters. More details: No Miss November goals
- School Wide - 90% or above
- Grade Level competition (6th grade was in the lead in October)
- Personal goal of perfect attendance (28/661 students had this 1st quarter)
- Teacher perfect attendance (6/32 teachers had perfect attendance 1st quarter)
Finally, please join us for our Title I Family Night on Thursday, November 6, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. It’s a great opportunity to connect, learn more about our programs, and enjoy time together as a school community.
Thank you for reading on — and for continuing to lead on in your homes, neighborhoods, and in the lives of our students.
Very Respectfully,
Dr. Walters - McMillan Principal
TeamMates Mentoring - Check it out!
November is LITERACY month!
YMCA Lion's Pride Information and Update
Enrichment and Opportunity After School
McMillan Middle School is proud to partner with the YMCA to offer Lion’s Pride, our free after-school program designed to give students a safe, supportive, and engaging space to learn and grow beyond the classroom.
Under the leadership of Ms. Conley and the YMCA staff, students in Lion’s Pride participate in a wide range of activities and experiences. They connect with community partners through hands-on opportunities like bicycle repair, gaming, and cosmetology, while also having access to tutoring and academic support. Students can join the dance team, attend home athletic events, enjoy a free meal, and explore many other opportunities that encourage fun, creativity, and personal growth.
The program has become so popular that more than 150 students attend Lion’s Pride every day, and there is currently a waitlist due to high demand. Lion’s Pride meets after school from 3:15 to 6:00 PM, providing a meaningful extension of the school day where students can build relationships, discover new interests, and strengthen skills that support their success in and out of school.
For more information, please contact Ms. Conley at stefanie.conley@ops.org

McMillan adds staff for 2026
Meet Ms. Angi Sada, who will start in January teaching in the ELA Department!
I'm Angi Sada. I'm a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Bellevue University, a lifelong reader and a writer. My time as a freelance journalist and a staff writer for weekly publications in the Midwest has provided me with a wealth of experience and a passion for journalism. I had the honor of spending almost 18 years serving young people in the Boys & Girls Clubs Movement as the education director at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands' Council Bluffs Unit and as the club director at the Lee A. Tolbert Community Academy Unit in Kansas City, Missouri.
I am completing my student teaching at Buena Vista High School under the skilled tutelage of Sarah Smolen. I love spending time with my pets (three pugs, a cat, two leopard geckos) and my family. I'm incredibly excited to be a part of the team at McMillan.
Welcome Ms. Sada!

Nurse Notes
Students enrolled in Omaha Public Schools are provided free health screenings in accordance with Nebraska State Statute. Screenings are conducted throughout the school year and may begin as early as August. Students in early childhood, kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, seventh, and tenth grades are screened for hearing, vision, dental, height, and weight per the rules and regulations set forth by the state of Nebraska. The screening is conducted to help identify health concerns in as early a stage as possible, in an effort to enhance learning. Screening is not intended to be diagnostic, but to identify students with potential problems. Findings that need further evaluation by a health care provider will be sent home. Per Nebraska State Regulations, a parent/guardian may supersede the mandated school health screening by submitting a statement signed by an authorized health care provider attesting that the required screening has been completed in the previous six months. An updated healthcare provider statement must be submitted each school year. Contact your school nurse for any questions regarding screening.
