Note from the Principals Note from the Principals

HHES Families:

The new school year is quickly approaching and our HHES team is working to prepare for a great year. We look forward to seeing students back for the first day of school on August 24 (grades 1-5) and August 27 (grades TK and K). Below, you will find important upcoming dates, school supply lists, and introductions for our new staff members. Our office staff will be back and the office will be open on August 17. We are here to help, so please feel free to give us a call on or after August 17th with any questions.

Class Placements

We know that each HHES student is eager to learn who their teacher will be for the coming year and are working hard to finalize classroom placements. We anticipate having class placements available for students in grades 1 - 5 on the morning of Thursday, August 20. Class placements will be available on Qmlativ and through our HHES office. Class placements for students in grades TK and K will be shared with each family by our office staff as we schedule a back to school parent meeting with you.

Back to School Community Fair

Our Back to School Community Fair will be held on Thursday, August 20 from 5 - 7 p.m.

Our Community Fair gives families of students in grades 1-5 a chance to meet their child's teacher, to interact with some of our amazing community partners, and to grab dinner with friends.

From 5 - 6 p.m., families can grab dinner and treats from food trucks on our school campus. During this hour, families can also visit with community partners at our Fair tables. Partners attending include First Student (bus transportation), HSD Food Services, HSD Community Education / ASA, Hockinson PWT, Molina Healthcare, Seamar, and Wellpoint. Pachamama Events will be on site to share balloon animals! We will also have a performance from our HHS band! If you represent a community partner and would like to join the Back to School Fair, please give us a call!

From 6 - 7 p.m., students in grades 1-5 can stop by their classroom to meet their teacher, drop off supplies, and see their learning space. Please note that our TK and K teachers will not be on campus during the Community Fair. TK and K students will meet their teacher at their parent meeting.

TK / K Parent Meetings

TK and K students and their families will be able to meet their teacher at one-on-one meetings to be held on August 24 - 26. Our office staff will contact you via email next week to let you know about your child's placement and to schedule a parent meeting.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership!

Personal Devices - HSD Policy 3245 Personal Devices - HSD Policy 3245

This July, our Hockinson School Board adopted an updated policy regarding student use of personal electronic devices during the school day. For our HHES students, this policy states that personal electronic devices must be "off and away" at all times throughout the school day. Personal electronic devices are any mobile phone or other portable electronic device that is capable of making and receiving calls or text messages, accessing the Internet, listening to music, playing a video game, or streaming or watching a video (including cell phones, smart watches, game systems, earbuds, etc.) Students are permitted to wear smartwatches but may not use their "smart" features (e.g., texting and internet searching) during the school day. The district is not responsible for stolen, lost, or damaged personal electronic devices. Students who bring personal electronic devices to school do so at their own risk.

We will discuss expectations surrounding personal electronic devices on the first day of school. Please remind your student that at school phones must be off and in their backpacks and that smart watches cannot be used for calling, texting, or accessing the internet.

Please note that accommodation plans may be available for students with medical and special needs. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please feel free to contact us.

Families of Fourth and Fifth Graders,

As Mr. Marshall shared earlier this summer, beginning in the 2027-28 school year, Hockinson Middle School will move to a grade 5-8 model. This means that our current fourth and fifth grade students will join Hockinson Middle School next year. We are committed to making our fourth and fifth grade students' experience a wonderful one for their final year at HHES and will ensure that each student is a part of our many Hockinson traditions.

While we do not have all transition details finalized at this point, we want to be sure to keep you informed as we move through this process. You can find important information on the 5th Grade Move page and this page will be updated throughout the year. You are welcome to join us for the following events to learn more about the transition plans:

  • Family Information Night: Monday, October 19 at 6:30 to 8 pm; Hockinson Middle School

  • HSD’s Tour of Schools: Wednesday, October 21 at 8 to 11 am; begin at Hockinson Community Center
