- Tuesday, September 2nd - First Day for Students
- Monday, September 15th - School Pictures
Construction at JFDS
It is time for the Indoor Air Quality Project at both JFDS & WSCS, which will significantly limit access to the buildings over the summer. The workers in the buildings already were joined by additional crew on June 16th and will work through the entire summer to complete the project by the end of August.
What does this mean for parents and students?
- JFDS will be closed for general access over the summer. Staffing within the building will be limited to allow for construction to proceed as quickly as possible.
- Open House will be held after school starts in the Fall.
- Communication and phone calls may be delayed as administrators move around the building finding accessible places to work.
Depending on the construction, there may be an administrator in the office except on the following dates:
July 11, 17, 18, 21, & 28
August 1, 4, & 8
If no one is in the office, please call the school number (941-6220) and leave a voicemail, or you are welcome to email Mr. Moring at smoring@bangorschools.net. We’ll get back to you right away!

Frequently Asked Questions...
Keep an eye on our list for answers to common JFDS questions:
- This year, the BSD is moving to central registration. Click here to learn more.
My child went to Fairmount, do I need to register them?
- Nope! Fairmount registrations are automatically rolled over to JFDS.
What do students need for school supplies?
- Most required supplies are provided by the school, however students should have a water bottle, pens/pencils, and a three ring binder.
Do I need a lock for a locker?
- Sixth graders should bring a combination lock, although it is not required. For seventh and eighth grade students, their lock is built into the locker.
When will I find out my schedule?
- In a normal year, students do not get their schedule until Open House. With the construction, the middle school administrators will likely have to meet in August and make determinations about the best way to distrbute schedules.
When will we have Open House?
- Similarly, we will be watching the construction to see when we can move forward with normal events and communicate that information in August.
What are the school hours?
- Students can come into the building at 7:50. Homeroom starts at 8:10AM and ends at 8:15AM. The school day ends at 2:30PM. Most clubs and activities end at 4PM.

JFDS Flamingo Flock
The JFDS flamingos need your help!
- As you may know, when students return from April vacation each year, the flamingo flock appears in the Wright Garden to mark the start of Spring.
- Our flamingos are starting to show their age and need re-stocking.
- If you would be interested in donating a flamingo or two (or 10), please drop them off in the main office, or have them sent to Nurse Ireland at JFDS.
Help keep the tradition alive!

Chronic Absenteeism - Did You Know?
- Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10% of the days that they are enrolled in school. In Bangor, for a student attending the entire school year, chronic absenteeism would be 17 days or an average of approximately two days per month. Chronic absenteeism is based on total absences - both excused and unexcused. We look forward to meeting our school goal of 95% attendance by June 2025!
