What's the Buzz?!
Superintendent Message
Dear Murphy Families,
What an exciting time of year it is! Last week, we had the pleasure of kicking off our Kindergarten events, and it was wonderful to meet so many of our incoming students and their families. If you have a child who will be starting kindergarten this fall, we are pleased to announce that enrollment is now open! To make the process as easy as possible, we’ve launched a user-friendly online enrollment form. We invite you to experience a Murphy education!
As we enter testing season, we want to emphasize the importance of attendance. Every day in the classroom is valuable, especially as we approach assessments that help track student progress. Please stay connected with your school for important testing dates and details. We appreciate your support in ensuring our students are here, prepared, and ready to succeed.
With Spring Break just around the corner, we hope you take this time to relax, recharge, and spend quality moments with your family. We look forward to seeing everyone back after the break, refreshed and ready to finish the year strong!
Thank you for your continued partnership.
Warm regards,
Mr. Dettmar
Superintendent
Sullivan Hosts Event with Phoenix Suns & Mercury Foundation
Our Sullivan family had an unforgettable day as we partnered with the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury Foundation to bring a special event to our elementary students. The foundation team came out in full force, bringing energy and excitement to the day. Students had the chance to engage in a series of fun games and activities designed to promote teamwork, physical fitness, and positive attitudes. The foundation’s involvement was a wonderful reminder of the power of community collaboration and how sports can inspire young minds beyond the court.
It was a day full of smiles, laughter, and most importantly, lessons that extend far beyond the classroom. Sullivan students walked away with a greater appreciation for teamwork and the importance of staying active and healthy.
Murphy Staff Embraces Learning and Growth
We couldn't be more proud of our district leadership team for showing us that learning has no age limits. This past week, our team attended the Solution Tree Summit PLC experience and showed up not only ready to learn but eager to collaborate and grow together.
From engaging workshops to deep, thoughtful conversations, we spent the day gaining powerful strategies that will directly impact how we work with our students.
What makes this experience even more impactful is that it wasn’t just about attending a conference—it was about gaining concrete tools and actionable strategies to enhance our teaching and leadership.
At Murphy, we’re not just learning—we’re actively applying what we’ve learned to make a lasting difference in the lives of our students. We are committed, energized, and ready to keep pushing forward to create the best learning environment possible!
Kuban Students Get Creative with Spelling Sentences
At Kuban School, learning takes on a fun twist each week as students work on creating sentences with their weekly spelling words. This activity not only helps to reinforce spelling skills but also encourages students to think creatively and critically about how words are used in context. Whether it’s writing silly sentences or constructing thoughtful ones, the goal is for students to engage with their words in a deeper way that makes learning both fun and memorable.
This exercise allows them to connect the dots between spelling, vocabulary, and grammar in a hands-on, practical way. It’s a simple yet effective approach that brings joy to learning and helps our students master their spelling words in an enjoyable, interactive setting.
After-School Art Club: Exploring the World of Paper Mâché
At Sullivan School, our after-school Art Club has been getting creative with an exciting new project—paper mâché! Under the guidance of our talented art teacher, students have been exploring the fun and messy process of transforming simple materials into beautiful works of art. The kids are diving into the world of sculpture, learning the steps of creating structures, layering with paper, and using their imagination to bring their creations to life.
This hands-on art project has been more than just a way to pass the time after school—it’s been an opportunity for students to develop their fine motor skills, express their creativity, and work together on a shared project.
The paper mâché creations will soon be displayed for the whole school to see, and we can’t wait to showcase the hard work and artistic spirit of our Sullivan students.
Kindergarten Night: Welcoming Our Newest Families
It was an exciting across our schools as we hosted Kindergarten Night for our incoming families. The event was a wonderful opportunity for us to meet the new students and their families and to share all the exciting things that await them in the coming school year.
Our kindergarten teachers were on hand to answer questions, explain the curriculum, and give families a glimpse of the learning experiences their children will enjoy.
It’s always an exciting time when we can welcome our youngest learners into the Kuban family, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our incoming Kindergarten class!

A Message From Kuban Principal, Dr. Martinez
As part of our celebration for Read Across America Week, we’ll be decorating our classroom doors to celebrate the joy of reading. On Friday morning, we’ll also be welcoming community members to visit our classrooms and read with us. It’s going to be a wonderful way to share the love of books with our students!
In addition to our reading fun, it’s also Spirit Week! We’ve got a week full of exciting themes, and we can’t wait to see all of our students showing their school spirit. Be sure to check the attached schedule for the theme for each day.
Thank you for all your support, and we’re looking forward to a productive week to end our third quarter!
