Good evening Eagles,

I hope you are safely enjoying the extended weekend. Our first week of school was filled with positive energy, curiosity, and excitement as we welcomed students for the SY24-25 academic year. Thank you to the staff, students, and parents who helped us start the year strong.

LMSA family, I believe we have the capacity to continually work together to accomplish our common goals. We experienced several successful “firsts” this past week thanks to our school community coming together on one accord. Our first Chipotle “dine around”, our first school wide assembly, our first athletic events for the season, and our first evacuation drill are just a few firsts that come to mind. Our school community rose to the occasion in each of the aforementioned instances. I believe that this year will be filled with a myriad examples of us coming together and rising to the occasion in the best interest of our students and our school community.

Let’s have another great week! See you Tuesday!

Week 2 Bell Schedule

Due to our 4-day week, we will have gold and maroon days in respective order for the week. Also, please encourage your student to use the app, Lindblom Current Schedule 1.0. This app was created by one of our very own CTE teacher, Mr. Sidarous. Students should use it to find out:

  • what type of schedule we are following today
  • what the schedule is for the day
  • what class we are currently in
  • how much time is remaining in the current class
  • what class is next

Drop Off/Pick Up

Students can be dropped off or picked up on Wolcott and Winchester. Double Parking is prohibited! Please be considerate of the handicap ramps on Winchester and DO NOT park in front of the ramp. There is Safe Passage surrounding the perimeter of Lindblom and we'd like to enforce a "Kiss and Go" to avoid traffic back-ups; therefore, consider use of alternate blocks (like Damen, 61st Street, etc) for ease of traffic.

Students may enter the building through Door 3 (on Wolcott) or Door 9 (on Winchester).

BE SUPPORTIVE BE SUPPORTIVE

Shout-outs are owed to the science teacher, Ms. O'Shaughnessey and her Horticulture students - Sofia Aleman, Mckenzie Wilkens, Brandon Greene, Emmanual Brock, Shamar Proche, JeanCarlo Rodriguez, Jameson Caref, Renatha Mondragon, America Ortega, Mehki Powell and Nathaniel Santiago. These students cleaned and organized the Greenhouse over the summer, and created a space for learning while enjoying the greenhouse.

Teen Leadership Opportunities

Cradles to Crayons’ mission is to provide children across Chicagoland, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting with different communities. Our TLC program provides teen leaders the opportunity to be a part of this mission and vision.

The Teen Leadership Corps is an opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to gain leadership skills through in-person service-learning projects, and then put those skills into practice by engaging their communities in product collections and by raising awareness about the need for and work of Cradles to Crayons. Our upcoming Fall session will run from September 25th through December 14th both virtually and at our Giving Factory located at 2500 W Bradley Place in Chicago.

The TLC program has three main components:

  1. Saturday volunteer sessions - TLC members can sign up for Saturday volunteer shifts and will volunteer to help assist Cradles to Crayons staff in running stations for Saturday volunteer shifts.
  2. Virtual Wednesday sessions in the late afternoon/evening. Twice a month, we meet virtually for one hour to provide leadership-related training such as a career panel, resume workshop, and public speaking session.
  3. Final project - each TLC member will complete a final project supporting Cradles to Crayons, which will be either hosting a collection drive or a fundraiser.

Here is the link to the application. The application deadline is 11:59PM on Friday, September 6th.

BE UNDERSTANDING BE UNDERSTANDING

This week, several parents inquired about the change in building hours and afterschool programming. Last year, as you may recall, I shared multiple updates regarding building hours for SY24-25 as well as our budget cuts. The change in building hours is anchored in our commitment to provide adequate security throughout the school and to be fiscally responsible. Adjusting before and afterschool hours will help us ensure that we can equitably distribute adult supervision and the limited funds we have for extracurricular activities and programs across the school year.

Our security personnel will allow students to wait inside our school lobby areas as early as 6:45a with adult supervision. This is a grace afforded to parents dropping off students early and it protects students from inclement weather conditions. All students are expected to remain in Keeler auditorium until 7:30a to ensure they have adult supervision in the morning. Afterschool programming will begin during the week of September 9. We ask that you make the necessary arrangements to ensure your student is picked up, or leaves campus, before 5:30p if they are not enrolled in an after school program or athletic practice.

"Attendance Matters".....this is a slogan that will be uttered often to our Eagles as we prepare them for post-secondary life. Our week one attendance ended with 94%. Please keep in mind that late arrivals and early departures impact student's attendance record (one (1) missed block = 0.5 day attendance).
