Term 2 Issue 9 25th June 2026
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Week Ten is almost done and dusted, and the finish line is in sight. As usual, it's been all systems go here, and the students and staff have been having a blast. From excursions to incursions, carnivals to masses, the last two weeks have had them all. There's no rest for the wicked though, as Week 11 looks as jam-packed as any this term. We will all be very deserving of the upcoming school holidays!
INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL
Last Friday, Mr Rebeiro let loose the SFOA Interschool Cross Country Team down at Mawson Park, and they did not disappoint. Our team competed with guts and determination, running rings around the opposition. Our team competed in 'B' division against 10 or so other regional schools. We had some outstanding individual results on the day with Isaac Rapi-Beddall (6W), Lauren Yu (5W), Arie Boschman (5W) and Elijah Richards (3B) all finishing in second place, and Rueben Smith (4B) coming fourth. So outstanding was our team on the day that we came second in our division, meaning that we will be promoted to 'A' division next year. What an achievement! A huge thank you to Mr Rebeiro for all of the time and effort he put into preparing our team for the big day. There will be a short presentation at the conclusion of the Multicultural Concert next Friday. Congratulations!
MULTICULTURAL CONCERT/COMMUNITY LUNCH FRIDAY 3RD JULY - 11:30am
On Friday the 3rd of July, Mr Cunniffe will lead our school in delivering a concert recognising and paying tribute to the many diverse cultures that are represented at our school. Each year group will perform a song from some part of the world, highlighting the amazing gifts and knowledge that other cultures can share with us. The concert will begin at 11:30am and take approximately 45 minutes, leading us almost perfectly into our traditional end-of-term Community Lunch starting at 12:30pm.
P&F FUNDRAISER - BEATS BINGO
Last Saturday night, our school welcomed some of the world's most influential pop stars as they graced our school with their presence. The likes of Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Teddy Swims, Sia and a poor man's Jimmy Barnes took time out of their international schedule to play some Bingo and raise cash for the P&F. With more hydration breaks than the World Cup, people left well and truly in high spirits. Kurt Cobain's long-lost sister (Rose Cobain) took centre stage at half-time and at full-time (and at full-full-full time) to keep the VIPs entertained. It was a great night of connection and fun, and it just goes to show what a vibrant and committed community we have here at SFOA. Thanks to the P&F for all of their hard work. What will next year bring?
REPORTS AND PARENT INTERVIEWS
Our mid-year reports for students in Kindergarten to Year Six were released yesterday via SEQTA Engage. Also sent out was a link to schedule a Parent/Teacher meeting for Thursday, the 2nd of July, between 1pm and 6pm. Students will finish school on this day at 12:30pm, and will need to be collected promptly. Camp Australia is available from 12:30pm that day if you need care for your child. If you are having problems accessing SEQTA, please follow the troubleshooting guide on our school's website, under the student learning tab.
YEAR 6 BUSINESS EXPO
Our Year 6 students hosted the annual 'Business Expo' this morning in the gym. It was incredible to see the children so excited and motivated, displaying their wares with passion and pride. The selection of products was outstanding, and the innovation this year was the best I have seen since we began this idea several years ago. This is an opportunity to see their child's learning come to life, and it's these experiences that the students remember years down the track. Thank you to all the parents/guardians who made it into school to support the project, and also a huge congratulations to Mrs Bond and Mr Gorman for the preparation in the lead up to such a successful day. I am now off to make some origami whilst wearing my beaded bracelet, smelling like lavender, as my lips hydrate with honey, and I read my comic book, marking my page with several bookmarks.
EXTENDED LEAVE FORM - HOLIDAYS
A reminder to parents and caregivers that if you are planning on going on a holiday or having a planned absence (other than medical) longer than three consecutive days, you must fill out an Extended Leave Form via our school website under headings 'Our School' 'Forms & Procedures'.
STUDENT ABSENTEEISM
We kindly remind parents and caregivers that if your child is going to be absent from school, the process to notify us is either one of two ways: firstly, you can ring the school number and choose the absentee line or secondly, use the link on the website to send an absentee form via email. Notifying the classroom teacher is not the protocol, and you will be directed to go through the formal process explained above. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
School finishes on Friday, 3rd July, and students return on Tuesday, 21st of July. Monday, the 20th of July, is a pupil-free day. Please make note of this. I hope you all have a restful and safe break. We are looking forward to an incredible second semester full of learning and fun.
Best wishes,

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
🌟 Congratulations on Your First Holy Communion! 🌟
We congratulate the children of our parish who recently received their First Holy Communion — a sacred and unforgettable milestone in their journey of faith. This beautiful sacrament marks the first time they have received Jesus in the Eucharist, deepening their relationship with Christ and drawing them closer to the heart of the Church. It is a moment of grace, wonder, and spiritual growth, not only for the children but for their families and our entire faith community.
Let us continue to pray for these young communicants — that their hearts remain open to God's love, their faith continues to flourish, and they always find strength and joy in the presence of Christ.
May this be the beginning of a lifelong friendship with Jesus, nourished by the Eucharist and guided by His light.
A big thank you to Miss Duffy and Mr Haydon for your support and guidance in preparing the children for this special occasion. Also a big thank you to Mrs O'Reilly for the First Holy Communion biscuits, we hope you enjoy your special treat.

The Blueprint Tool
The Blueprint is a guided process that helps students think through situations involving strong emotions, such as disagreements, frustration, or hurt feelings. It supports children to reflect on what happened and consider the feelings and perspectives of everyone involved.
How does it work?
With teacher guidance, students are encouraged to explore questions like:
- What happened in the situation?
- How did I feel? How did others feel?
- Why did we feel that way?
- What could we do differently next time?
- How can we make things better now?
This structured approach helps students slow down, think carefully, and respond in positive and respectful ways.
Why is it important?
Learning to understand and manage emotions is a key part of a child’s development. The Blueprint helps students to:
- Build empathy and understand others’ perspectives
- Develop problem-solving skills
- Communicate more effectively
- Strengthen friendships and relationships
- Take responsibility for their actions
Working Together
You can reinforce these skills by:
- Talking with your child about their feelings each day
- Encouraging them to consider how others might feel
- Helping them reflect on challenges and think of solutions together
By working together, we can help children develop confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to manage emotions successfully in everyday life.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
This week, our wonderful Italian teacher, Signora Lori Mignogna is in the spotlight. Signora brings flair and passion every time she walks into our school. Signora's annual 'Yr 6 Italian Lunch' is also one of the biggest highlights on the school calendar (the staff are like seagulls over a chip). Let's find out a bit more about her...
- My go-to binge or streaming service or program...is currently Downton Abbey, next on my list is Bridgerton!
- If I could be elite at any sport, it would be...it would be Calcio Serie A - I've been practising my dives like...forever!
- My all-time favourite music artist is...Michael Bublé - I just love the old style crooners!
- Bucket list holiday destination....has got to be going back to Italy so I can show my grandkids where I was born.
- Peanut butter - crunchy or smooth? I don't mind which as long as it's smothered with Nutella! It's divine.
It sounds like the Azzuri could have used your dramatics during their World Cup qualifying campaign, Signora....you might have helped them actually make it to the big dance! Thank you for everything you do, Signora!
