MARCH 2026 - Virtue of KINDNESS
~ Ephesians 4:32
During the month of March, we will focus on the virtue of Kindness.
God wants us to give generously to others around us.
A person of kindness:
- is gentle and sensitive to others
- stands by their friends in time of need
- shares their time and talents
- says nice things about others from the heart
- always looks for ways to be helpful God wants us to be kind to everyone we meet.
KINDNESS is about more than just pretending to be nice. It is about helping and playing with others because we want to, not because we feel we have to. We have all been given the fruit of the Holy Spirit called kindness, which is the act of loving and giving generously to others as God does. Our empathy for others is transformed into action that extends beyond concern for ourselves and allows us to see God in every face that we meet.
ONTARIO CATHOLIC SCHOOL GRADUATE EXPECTATIONS
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
As we begin the month of March, we find ourselves deep within the season of Lent—a sacred time of reflection, prayer, and renewal. Lent invites us to slow down, look inward, and draw closer to God by choosing actions that reflect Jesus’ love in our daily lives. It is a season that reminds us that transformation often begins with simple moments of compassion, humility, and grace.
This month, our school community focuses on the virtue of Kindness. Kindness is more than a polite gesture; it is a way of seeing others through the eyes of Christ. When we choose to act with kindness, we acknowledge the dignity of every person and help build a community rooted in hope and belonging.
In a world that can sometimes feel broken with division, anger, and hurt, our call as Catholics is clear: to be signs of God’s love where love is lacking, and carriers of kindness where it is most needed. Even the smallest act—a smile, a helping hand, a word of encouragement—has the power to soften hearts and brighten someone’s path. These moments, though simple, reflect the Gospel message we are called to live each day.
My hope is that throughout Lent, our students, staff, and families will embrace opportunities to be instruments of peace and kindness. Together, let us create spaces where compassion grows, empathy deepens, and everyone feels included, valued, and loved.
May this season lead us closer to God and closer to one another, as we focus on prayer, fasting, and acts of charity to help us prepare for the joy of Easter.
Blessings,
M. Masucci
Principal

LENTEN CHARITY DRIVE
During Lent, our school is taking part in a special almsgiving collection to help us reflect on kindness, compassion, and caring for others. Each item we collect has a meaningful purpose that connects to the needs of people in our wider community. Kindergarten to Grade 3 students are asked to bring soap, which supports a person's dignity and reminds us that everyone deserves the basic hygiene that helps them feel healthy and respected. Candles being collected by our Grades 4 to 6 students, represent light and warmth, reminding us that we are called to bring comfort and hope to others, especially those who may feel alone or are going through difficult times. Grades 7 and 8 classes are collecting salt, which helps to heal wounds and provides food seasoning, flavour and acts as a preservative. Jesus calls us to be the “salt of the earth and light of the world” by bringing goodness, care, and encouragement wherever we are. By collecting these simple items, we learn that even small acts of giving can make a big difference in someone’s life. Thank you to everyone who has already donated items, and thank you to Mr. Borrelli's Grade 4 class for organizing this Lenten drive.

ST. TIMOTHY HAPPENINGS - G O T I T A N S !
🏀 JUNIOR GIRLS' & BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAMS 🏀
Congratulations to our Junior Boys' and Girls' Basketball Teams on an incredible season! Both teams won their POD Tournaments in February and advanced to the Mississauga South Family of Schools Tournaments, where they celebrated big wins and learned from tough losses. Each player worked hard, strengthened their skills, and played with heart every time they stepped on the court. All our junior basketball team members should be proud of their efforts and the positive way they represented our school! Your coaches, Ms. Sadowski, Ms. Gdyczynski, and Ms. Zivkovic are so proud of everything you accomplished this season. Thank you to the coaches and to the parents of the players for their support and encouragement! GO TITANS!
⛄ CARNAVAL DE QUÉBEC ⛄
On February 24, 2026, St. Timothy School was transformed into a lively winter wonderland as we celebrated Carnaval de Québec—the world’s largest winter festival!
Students spent the day rotating through a variety of festive, winter‑themed games, including the snowball toss, snowman wrap, penguin wrap, and snowball bowling. Laughter, cheers, and friendly competition filled the school as everyone embraced the spirit of Carnaval.
Our Grade 6 students shone as team captains, showing confidence and leadership throughout the event. The Grade 7 and 8 students kept the energy high, running each station with enthusiasm and encouraging every team to do their best.
A heartfelt MERCI to our wonderful parent volunteers—your support helped to make this year’s Carnaval a memorable success! We are grateful to Madame Krampert, Ms. Zabukovec, and Monsieur Riopel (a.k.a. Bonhomme 🧣) for their planning and organization of this event. Très fantastique!
CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY - HIGH FIVE TO 365 SHARE FAIR
Throughout the month of February and beyond, our students engaged in various learning activities, presentations, projects, book talks, read-alouds to celebrate Black History month. During mindful discussions, classrooms focused on famous Canadian Black community members and shared historical information and accolades of accomplishments and contributions to our country and the world. Many students also explored the work of Black Canadian artists, including Kimmy Cantrell, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Reggie Laurent, studying their unique style and contributions to the Arts. Inspired by their research, students then created their own original pieces, showcasing both their learning and their creativity.
On Friday, February 27, during the High Five to 365 share fair, students had the opportunity to share their learning, as our hallways displayed projects, presentations, and artwork that highlighted the notable contributions Black Canadians have made to society. Well done, everyone!

EDUCATION QUALITY AND ASSESSMENT OFFICE (E.Q.A.O.) - GRADES 3 & 6
At St. Timothy Catholic Elementary School, we understand that the purpose of the EQAO assessment is to promote academic excellence and improvement in student achievement throughout all schools in our province. As educators, we respond to our EQAO results with appropriate accountability, integrity and due diligence. As a Catholic school and as Catholic educators, however, we are called to respond in a distinctive manner for we believe that our students are described not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but also in terms of values, attitudes and actions. When we encourage our students to utilize all of their God-given gifts to the best of their ability, we are fostering an environment of servitude and promoting the understanding that we are loved and valued as children of God because of who we are rather than how we perform and what we produce.
Our Grade 3 and 6 students will be participating in the Math and Language provincial assessments during the week of June 1st – 5th. More information will be sent home prior to the dates. It is important for students to be in attendance at school during assessment dates; we ask that families do not schedule any vacation during this period.
The types of questions included in the EQAO e-assessment will be familiar to our students as they are based on the work they have been doing throughout the year. Sample assessments are available on the EQAO website for Grade 3 students and for Grade 6 students.
The EQAO assessment results help us to continue to improve upon the quality Catholic education offered to your children. For more information please visit here.
PARENT WEBINARS FOR E.Q.A.O.
The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) offers free live webinars throughout the year to help families understand how students' learning is assessed in Ontario. Join these virtual sessions to learn how to better support your child's success in key areas like reading and math.

SEW COOL ! 🧵🪡
Denise Wild's Sewing Studio is coming to our school with a specialty program like you’ve never seen before — a dynamic, engaging sewing workshop that breaks the creative mold! The Sewing Studio’s stereotype-busting mentors guide each student through success, teaching Grades 1-8 students how to sew with a sewing machine. Each child will gain confidence, develop their growth mindset, and complete a project from start to finish while being motivated and inspired. Not only does sewing get you hands-on and help you flex your creative muscles, it also helps you feel joyful, mindful, and focused. More information is available in the parent letter in SchoolMessenger.
COMING SOON TO ST. TIMOTHY SCHOOL ON MARCH 10 & 11!
WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY - 3 / 21
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is a global awareness day that occurs on the 21st day of the 3rd month of each year. This date was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. On WDSD, people with Down Syndrome and those who live and work with them throughout the world organize and invite others to participate in activities to raise public awareness. The impact of this day is to help to create a single global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down Syndrome. DPCDSB is committed to inclusion of all people within our school communities and schools are encouraged to participate in activities to support the voice of people with Down Syndrome.

STUDENT STRATEGIES
T.H.I.N.K.
T. H.I.N.K. before you speak, write, or post!
T - is it True?
H - is it Helpful?
I - is it Inspiring?
N - is it Necessary?
K - is it Kind?
The students at St. Timothy School are taking a stance and THINKING before they speak. Please use these strategies at home, as to support the learning at school. Together we continue to support student well-being and model the virtues of our faith.
W.W.J.D.
WWJD is a popular acronym that is a simple yet powerful reminder to always act with love, compassion, and kindness toward others.
The idea behind it is that anytime you encounter a situation, you are to ask yourself, What Would Jesus Do? Then, that is what you are supposed to do.
So next time you’re faced with a difficult decision or encounter someone who may not see eye-to-eye with you, remember WWJD. Let’s choose love over hate and understanding over division. Together, let’s make this world a better place one small action at a time – and treat others as Jesus would and as we would want to be treated!
W. I. T. S.
The WITS program is how students at St. Timothy School are learning to solve problems in class and outside at recess. This program helps resolve and de-escalate problems before they become more severe. Staff continue to model these problem-solving strategies on a regular basis.
PARENT REMINDERS
VOLUNTEERS - CBC with VSS
Attention to Parent Volunteers - TRIPS, SCHOOL EVENTS, etc.
Here is a great chance to help out at the school. A Criminal Background Check (CBC) is required for all volunteers (Annual Declarations for existing Volunteers).
Criminal Background Check must be with a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) - Level 3.
If you wish to accompany your child on a field trip as a supervisor or volunteer at the school, it is advisable to get your CBC-VSS early in the school year, as there is a processing time.
A letter may be obtained from the school to indicate that you are volunteering at St. Timothy C.E.S
COMMUNICATIONS: SCHOOL MESSENGER
Board Communications and School Information Updates are distributed via School Messenger.
We ask that parents/guardians check to see that they have not blocked School Messenger on their e-mail and/or text messaging settings. It is advisable that you set up the School Messenger app on your mobile phone. You may also inform the school about absences using School Messenger, which reports the absence in real time without having to call the Office. A note in your child's agenda is also helpful for the teacher.
Child Safety
The Child and Family Services Act compels educators to report any issues that may compromise a child’s welfare. If a staff member suspects any issue that may affect a child’s safety, then they have a duty to report to the Children’s Aid Society (CAS). It is not the role of the educator to investigate. That is the role of CAS as they deem appropriate.
Custody of Children
On occasion, we are faced with difficult situations in which non-custodial parents arrive at school asking to visit with their child or take their child out of school. In order to assist us in making correct decisions in order to serve and protect each child, we ask that you make the office aware of any legal custody arrangements, visitation rights and special instructions that have been agreed upon. Please note that we require legal documentation of these arrangements, not merely a note from a parent.
Allergy Alert
Some of the students in our school have severe life threatening allergic reactions to tree nuts, peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oils and any peanut by-products. For some children, even the smell of nuts or trace amounts of oil can bring on a severe attack. We need your cooperation! We kindly ask that you DO NOT send snacks to school that contain nuts or any nut products.
Please note that to ensure the continued safety of all students, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board with the support of the Anaphylactic Society and the Peel Health Department has recommended that students not bring peanut butter alternatives (e.g. Wow butter, soy butter, sunflower butter) to school. We thank you for your cooperation in supporting student safety.
*** Please do not send any snacks or food items for special occasions ***
(e.g. Birthdays, Hallowe'en, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc.). They will be sent home with your child.
Non-edible items (e.g. pencils, stickers, etc.) are accepted but not necessary.
Head Injury Protocol
When a student receives an injury/bump to the head (however minor), it is Board Policy that we inform parents. This is precautionary only, and we request that you check your child when he/she gets home for any signs of a concussion or illness. A brochure containing information about concussions is also available. Again, this is a precautionary measure and for informational purpose.
ATTENDANCE and Safe Arrival: School Messenger
Whether it’s a medical appointment, an illness or other important event, there are times when students may need to be away from school. Using the SafeArrival system, parents will be able to report daily or future absences in one of three ways:
Web:
- Go to the SafeArrival website at go.schoolmessenger.ca
- Select Sign Up to create your account. (Only needed for the initial setup, after that you will click on login).
- Select Attendance.
- Select Report an Absence.
App:
- Download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Please note that SafeArrival uses the SchoolMessenger app.
- Select Sign-Up. (Only needed for the initial setup, after that you will click on login).
- You will be prompted to enter your email (same email address your school has on file) and create a password.
- The system will send a link to the same email address the school has on file, please click on the link you have received in your email to activate your account.
Phone:
- Call the toll-free number 1-844-435-3440
- Listen to and follow the instructions to report an absence.
- If the system doesn’t recognize your caller ID, you will be asked to enter the student’s home phone number or any phone number for the guardian that is on file with the school.
Parents self-reporting their child's absence reduces the calls to the office for the parent, and the calls to the office from the school. Your support is appreciated.

Families affected have also been notifed via School Messenger.
Doctors do not report immunizations. Schools are also not responsible for updating any immunization records, although we appreciate you letting us know also once you have communicated with Peel Health!
PEDICULOSIS (Head Lice)
A problem which occurs from time to time in schools is an infestation of head lice also known as Pediculosis. Pediculosis is in no way connected with poor hygiene or dirt. Anyone can become infested. If a case of pediculosis is found in a classroom, the school will inform the parents of that class. If your child(ren) becomes infested by head lice, we request that you keep them home from school until after they have been treated with the correct treatment solution, and their hair is entirely clear of both lice and nits (eggs). Encourage your child(ren) not to share headwear, combs or brushes and check their hair periodically.
There is additional information on the Canadian Paediatric Society website or you may contact Health Line Peel at: 905-799-7700. Even if we all cooperate in these procedures, pediculosis may still occur, although there is a better opportunity to keep it under control. Information on head lice may also be obtained from your family doctor or pharmacist.
